Of course, draft analysis, projections and rumors will be dominating the headlines until then. One man hoping to beat out his projection is tight end Grant Calcaterra out of SMU.

Strengths
There are questions surrounding Grant Calcaterra’s health and potential career length in the NFL, but not his effectiveness when healthy and on the field. In 11 games at SMU, Calcaterra was able to nearly match his total receptions, yardage and touchdowns from 20 games as an Oklahoma Sooner. Naturally, his per reception yardage went down from being used more, but he was able to set a career-high in receptions and yards while scoring a touchdown 10% of the time he had the ball in his hands. This is a prospect who loves to play football and will do anything it takes to continue to play and contribute to the team.
Weaknesses
Obviously, Calcaterra’s health concerns (concussion history) are the biggest red flag of all. At tight end, you must be able to deliver and absorb hits from the NFL’s best defenders. Questions as to how many healthy years a team will be able to get out of him must be considered. Prior to 2021, Calcaterra played 20 games across four seasons, including just three games in 2019 before missing the entirety of the 2020 season while enduring a make-shift retirement from football.
