With the fifth overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the New York Giants draft Kayvon Thibodeaux, an edge rusher out of Oregon. Once widely expected to be the top option in this draft class, Thibodeaux’s stock dropped a bit in the months leading up to the draft. With that being said, the Giants are still getting an impact pass-rusher and a Day 1 starter. Let’s take a closer look at Thibodeaux.

Kayvon Thibodeaux Draft Profile

Strengths

There are plenty of reasons why Kayvon Thibodeaux was thought to be the top prospect in the 2022 NFL Draft. He has an absolutely unreal first step. His quickness is that of someone much lighter and smaller. Thibodeaux also has great flexibility and bend around the edge, making it tough for tackles to get their hands on him. With great length and broad shoulders as well, he is built to be an edge rusher in the NFL.

Weaknesses

Whether it’s not being prepared or taking plays off, Thibodeaux has too many snaps where he has no moves or plan. He also loses the ball carrier too often in the running game. Possibly his biggest knock is the rumor of a poor work ethic or not being coachable, though this could be a rumor spread by a team hoping he falls to them.

What to Expect From Kayvon Thibodeaux in 2022

A former top recruit out of high school, Kayvon Thibodeaux will immediately boost the pass rush of the New York Giants. Perhaps the best pass rusher in the 2022 NFL Draft class, Thibodeaux will slot in on the Giants’ starting defensive line alongside the likes of Leonard Williams and Dexter Lawrence. The reports about Thibodeaux’s poor work ethic and attitude carry no merit whatsoever. If anything, the slights might motivate this top-tier athlete and make him even better out of the gates at the NFL level.
