With the seventh overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the New York Giants draft Evan Neal, an offensive tackle out of Alabama. Neal is arguably the best tackle in this draft class, and he was drafted to be a difference-maker up front for the Giants. And that is exactly what he will be. Let’s take a closer look at Giants’ newest offensive lineman.

Evan Neal Draft Profile

Strengths

Evan Neal is a massive, strong offensive lineman that is ready to be one of the best in the league. He is explosive out of his stance, showing great athleticism while also being light on his feet. Neal played left tackle last season for Alabama, right tackle the year before and left guard before that. So, not only will he get better with some stability at a position, but Neal has the versatility to play multiple positions if need be.

If Neal gets his hands on you, he’s going to bury you. He plays with an attitude, yet he only had one holding penalty last season.

Weaknesses

Neal needs to sit back a bit more in pass protection. He has too much weight over his toes, leading to him being off-balanced. This is also part of the reason why he falls off of blocks too often. However, with the right coaching, he has obvious All-Pro potential.

What to Expect From Evan Neal in 2022

It is my opinion that Evan Neal is the best offensive tackle in this draft class, and possibly the best overall lineman in this class. What may not be arguable is that Neal is the most NFL-ready offensive lineman in the class. Yes, he has the skills and the ceiling, but he is also the most battle-tested. Alabama players always say the toughest players they face come in practice every day, and it’s tough to argue with that. If you don’t agree with that narrative, Neal still faced the toughest competition, going up against Georgia twice.

Neal is a Week 1 starter, and he has all of the makings to be a franchise player at the tackle position. This is a great draft pick by the Giants.
