Much like in Groups I and J, Group K appears to have a clear-cut winner and then everyone else, without a game even needing to be played. Portugal enters the 2026 FIFA World Cup as heavy favorites to contend for the title, while second place will likely be decided between the Democratic Republic of Congo (Congo DR), Uzbekistan and Colombia.
With Congo DR and Uzbekistan both ranked outside the top 45 of FIFA’s Men’s Rankings, while Portugal and Colombia rank fourth and 13th, respectively, Group K appears to be the most straightforward group in this tournament.

Prediction
Out of all the teams in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, it’s not a stretch to say that Portugal has the best midfield by a fair margin. Bruno Fernandes is likely going to win the Premier League Player of the Year, while Vitinha is just coming off a 2025 season that saw him finish in third for the Ballon d’Or (best footballer in the world). Seeing what Bruno Fernandes has done for Manchester United, essentially willing the club to glory by himself, there is no doubt that he and Vitinha together can easily lead Portugal to the top of Group K. They will see a challenge from Colombia, but they have way too much firepower for Colombia to keep up with.
This group may be the most divided group when it comes to talent gaps. There is a sizable gap between Portugal and Colombia, and then an even larger gap between Colombia and the Congo DR and Uzbekistan. Both Congo DR and Uzbekistan have some fine players, but neither team has the type of star attacker or midfielder that can take over a game on their own. As a result, it’s hard to see either team getting any sort of result from either game against Portugal or Colombia. With the two teams likely only getting a result from the game between each other, it’s unlikely either will qualify for the knockout stages. If there is an edge between the two teams, it belongs to Congo DR, who have the better defense and the slightly better midfield with Noah Sadiki leading the charge.
