One of four games scheduled on a busy Thursday night in the WNBA is a cross-conference battle between the Indiana Fever and Dallas Wings. Both teams are seeking to inch closer to leveling their respective records off at .500 for the season. The fact that both sides come in having won two of their last three games suggests that they have been at least playing better of late. Despite this, the WNBA betting odds have Dallas favored by a wide margin for tonight’s game. It will be up to bettors to decide whether laying a hefty number is worth it when making tonight’s Fever vs Wings prediction.

The following game preview includes our official Fever vs Wings prediction, the injury report for both teams, WNBA betting odds from BetOnline Sportsbook, key betting trends and much more!

Fever vs Wings WNBA Betting Game Preview

    Indiana Fever Preview

The Fever managed to pull off a rather shocking WNBA betting upset in their most recent game on Sunday. Sure, the Chicago Sky were without one of their leaders in Candace Parker, but few expected Indiana to secure an outright win. Despite an abysmal second quarter in which they only scored nine points, the Fever earned a two-point victory at home. After a 3-12 start, Indiana has now won two of their last three coming into Thursday’s contest.

Forward NaLyssa Smith took full advantage of Chicago being without their top big on Sunday. Her final line amounted to an impressive 26-point, 11-rebound double-double. Thanks to Smith, the Fever were able to secure the victory despite no other player scoring more than 13 points. Kelsey Mitchell, the team’s leading scorer on the season, recorded that amount. She also took on a major role as a playmaker with nine assists in the game.

    Dallas Wings Preview

The Wings recently slipped below .500 on the season in the standings. It should be noted that playing five straight games against Seattle and Las Vegas was hardly an ideal scheduling spot. Few teams would have mustered more than the single win that Dallas earned during that stretch. After bouncing back with a couple of home wins, the Wings came up short in their most recent contest two nights ago against Atlanta. After outscoring the Dream by ten in the third quarter to pull to within one, Dallas’ offense only managed nine points total in the final period.

Despite the recent setback, the Wings remain in third place in the Western Conference standings entering Thursday’s home game. Allisha Gray led a trio of Dallas players who scored in double figures on Tuesday with 18 points. Arike Ogunbowale and Tiera McCowan each supplied 14 while Marina Mabrey did a little of everything with nine points, six boards and four assists. Dallas’ offensive depth could be a key advantage to note when making today’s Fever vs Wings prediction. Each of Ogunbowale, Gray and Mabrey are averaging at least 14 points per game on the season.

    Fever vs Wings Stats

    • Indiana is averaging 80.3 points per game (PPG) this season (No. 7 in the WNBA).
    • Indiana is surrendering 88.3 points per game (PPG) this season (No. 12 in the WNBA).
    • Dallas is averaging 81.8 points per game (PPG) this season (No. 5 in the WNBA).
    • Dallas is surrendering 81.7 points per game (PPG) this season (No. 7 in the WNBA).

    Fever vs Wings Prediction

From the standpoint of offensive talent, the advantage that the Wings will have in this matchup cannot be ignored. Five Dallas players are averaging in double figures scoring on the season compared to only three for Indiana. Because the Fever are so dependent on Kelsey Mitchell and NaLyssa Smith to provide the majority of their offense, it will be easy for the Wings to key in on these two players.

It’s also difficult to have much confidence in the Fever when making WNBA betting picks because of how poor the team is defensively. Those who decide to back Indiana with tonight’s Fever vs Wings prediction must be aware that they are going to be wagering on a team that has allowed 88.3 points per game to opponents this season. That’s a full point more than the next worst scoring defense in the league. The Fever rank second-worst in defensive rating and have a net rating of -9.0. That margin comes in exactly 2.5 points below the next-worst team in that category.

Digging a bit deeper into the X’s and O’s of this matchup, the Wings’ prowess from three-point range must be noted. Not only does Dallas attempt plenty of triples on a regular basis, but they have knocked down 36% of them on the season. With Arike Ogunbowale, Allisha Gray and Marina Mabrey serving as a three-headed monster in the Wings’ backcourt, it’s no surprise that the team has been solid shooting from distance.

That skill set certainly figures to work well tonight against a Fever perimeter defense that has allowed opponents to hit 36% of all three-pointers attempted. Add in the fact that Indiana is trending towards being a publicly-backed underdog and the Wings set up as a nice contrarian WNBA betting favorite to back.

Fever vs Wings Prediction: Wings -8.5 (-110 at BetOnline Sportsbook)
