    FCS Spring Football Rankings: Weber State Takes Top Spot

    Every Monday, we will be releasing our FCS Spring Football Rankings, with some of the major storylines over the weekend. This week, even after North Dakota beat up on South Dakota on Thursday night, there is a new number one in the FCS rankings.

    Weber State was idle, but still managed to pry the top spot from the hands of the Fighting Hawks. In other rankings news, James Madison also dropped because of a close game versus Elon. Let’s check out the new rankings, and some of the major story-lines throughout the country.

    FCS Spring Football Rankings

    1. Weber State (1-0, 1-0)
    2. North Dakota (3-0, 3-0)
    3. Nicholls State (2-0, 1-0)
    4. South Dakota State (2-1, 2-1)
    5. James Madison (3-0, 3-0)
    6. Villanova (1-0, 1-0)
    7. Southern Illinois (3-1, 2-1)
    8. Northern Iowa (2-1, 2-1)
    9. Kennesaw State (1-0, 1-0)
    10. Albany (1-0, 1-0)

    FCS Spring Football Top-10 Headlines | College Football News

    (1) Weber State was idle this week, but after South Dakota hung tough with (2) North Dakota giving the Wildcats the edge for number one.

    (3) Nicholls State quarterback Lindsey Scott Jr. has the Nicholls State offense scoring points in bunches. Against Northwestern State he threw for 299 yards and three touchdowns, guiding the high-scoring Colonels past the Demons.

    (4) South Dakota State steamrolled Western Illlinois from start to finish on Saturday. Isaiah Davis and Mark Gronowski each had over 100-yards rushing and combined to score three touchdowns.

    (5) James Madison The Dukes have a lot of time to improve, but their three point win over Elon on Saturday is not a good sign going forward. The Dukes were down 17-3 at the half, but Percy Agyei-Obese was huge in the second half and finished with over 130-yards rushing and a touchdown to help the Dukes beat the Phoenix 20-17.

    (6) Villanova started their 2021 Spring Campaign on the right foot, edging conference rival Stony Brook 16-13. The Wildcats defense was great and the player of the game was Wildcat wide receiver Rayjoun Pringle, who had 170 yards receiving with one touchdown to help the Wildcats get by the Seawolves.

    (7) Southern Illinois easily beat a struggling Youngstown State team 30-22. The Penguins jumped out to an early 12-0 lead, but the Salukis stormed back thanks to big performances from running back Rameir Elliott and the Saluki defense. The Penguins had a late push, getting within 8, before Southern Illinois closed the door and escaped Youngstown with a win.

    (8) Northern Iowa’s defense was superb all game, holding Illinois State to under 100-yards passing. Quarterback Will McElvain was up and down, but hit some passes when he needed to to help the Panthers pull out a 20-10 victory.

    (9) Kennesaw State was idle this weekend, but they have some true tests in the coming weeks versus Gardner-Webb and Monmouth. The Owls own one of the best offenses in the FCS, but their defense will need to step up big time if they want to be playing in April and May.

    (10) Albany came out on top in their season opener. Albany quarterback Jeff Undercuffler was great, throwing for three touchdowns, as the Great Danes won their first game. They stopped a late two-point conversion attempt by New Hampshire, the ran out the clock to start the season with a big conference win.
