Week 5 Fantasy Football QB Streamers

Jared Goff | Detroit Lions (at MIN)

Jared Goff may not be the big-ticket name you want to start in your lineup, but he’s having a quietly solid year outside of a bad game against Baltimore. Even against a tough Chicago Bears defense, Goff put up over 16 points. He would have scored a lot more if not for fumbles from a strip-sack and a snap that went off of his legs and straight to the Chicago defense. Goff has thrown two-plus touchdowns in three of the four weeks thus far and gets a much better matchup this week against the Minnesota Vikings.

This Minnesota secondary and pass rush is much worse than that of Chicago’s. While he won’t look like a prime Joe Montana by any means, he will have plenty of weapons that the Vikings won’t be able to stop as effectively. Goff can not only check down to his talented running back tandem, but he can also consistently find a mismatch for tight end T.J. Hockenson. All of this should make it much easier for the Lions to move down the field. Unless you have an elite quarterback, all you need from the position is a solid 20 points. Goff will get you that and is only rostered in 13.4% of leagues.

Daniel Jones | New York Giants (at DAL)

Breaking news: Daniel Jones is good at football. This year, he is limiting the turnovers, and, boy, is it paying off. Jones is currently QB6 and yet is only rostered in 39.6% of fantasy football leagues. In four games this season, Jones has completed over 68% of his passes three times and has only turned the ball over twice. The Giants are so bad that nobody pays attention to them, even with Jones being a must-play in fantasy.

With Dallas on deck, there is no doubt that Jones is going to put up some major points. Dallas is the fourth-worst defense against quarterbacks in fantasy, and they gave up plenty of points to a worse quarterback in Jalen Hurts. Even if the Giants find themselves in a big hole, Hurts showed us just how many garbage points Dallas leaves behind. With the confidence of last week’s win over the Saints still running rampant, the Giants have a chance to make a statement against Dallas. They may not win, but Danny Dimes is going to show up.

Trey Lance | San Francisco 49ers (at ARI)

It’s always a tough decision on what to do with rookie quarterbacks, especially in their first start. When it comes to Trey Lance, don’t think too hard. This 49ers offense is easy for quarterbacks to master, as seen by them making the Super Bowl two years ago with Jimmy Garoppolo. This run-heavy team will look much different than they have since Garoppolo took over. That spells a lack of film and knowledge about what this 49ers team will do that could cause problems for the Cardinals defense.

Arizona is the ninth-best fantasy football defense against quarterbacks up to this point, however, that number doesn’t tell the whole story. They have faced off against the Titans, Vikings, Jaguars and Rams. Say what you will about those offenses, but only one of those quarterbacks is dynamic enough that makes it tough to defend against. With Lance’s legs providing a challenge not yet faced by Arizona, he will be able to pick up a lot of points on the ground which should give him quite a high floor in Week 5.

Rostered in only 24.2% of fantasy football leagues, don’t be part of the group that wishes they picked him up when they had the chance.
