As we turn the page to Week 2 of the NFL season, the strategy of selecting weekly fantasy football streamers also begins for many managers. One of the more common positions for streaming is naturally defense/special teams. Unless you are in an IDP league, the production of a defense in fantasy football often greatly depends on the team’s matchup in a given week.

The Week 2 slate is somewhat tricky as many teams who are believed to have solid defenses happen to be matched up against teams with highly regarded offenses. That said, it is still very possible to lock in a quality fantasy football defense streamers option. Below, we identify a few candidates that are widely available and aim to keep you on the path toward fantasy greatness so that you can be the one hoisting your league’s trophy, championship belt or champ chain.

Players must be owned in less than 60 percent of ESPN leagues to be included in the fantasy football Week 2 D/ST streamers column. All ownerships will be provided and will reflect that of Wednesday morning, once waivers are processed.

Fantasy Football Week 2 Defense Streamers

Denver Broncos (13.1%)

Talent-wise, one could make a case that the Denver Broncos D/ST is one worth rostering and starting with regularity in fantasy football. However, the unit was very underwhelming in a Week 1 home loss to the Las Vegas Raiders. Still, it’s very surprising that they are only owned in 13% of ESPN leagues as of Wednesday. One can only hope that Vance Joseph will have a better game plan in place for the team’s Week 2 clash against the Washington Commanders.

As you might expect, the matchup is just as influential in this fantasy football Week 2 streamers selection as the Broncos’ collection of talented defensive players. The Commanders may have gotten past Arizona last week, but they only gained 248 yards of offense, scored 20 points and also committed three turnovers. The Broncos should prove to be more than capable of flustering Sam Howell into more mistakes, especially with the game being played at Mile High.

New York Giants (17.7%)

The New York Giants were the butt of the NFL in Week 1 after getting shutout 40-0 by division rival Dallas on their home field. There is no doubt that head coach Brian Daboll will have his team ready to rebound in Week 2. Along with the expectation that the Giants will put forth a spirited effort, a matchup against the lowly Arizona Cardinals adds to the appeal of considering them as a fantasy football Week 2 D/ST streamers option.

To put things bluntly, the Cardinals’ front office has shown no interest in winning games this year. Arizona is in full-on tank mode, and the team’s offense figures to be challenged to simply sustain drivers, let alone score points, all season long. With journeyman backup Josh Dobbs starting at QB, the Cardinals’ passing attack isn’t scaring anyone. Any concerns about a Giants secondary that is clearly the week link of the defense can be set aside this week.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (15.8%)

Despite being outgained by over 120 yards, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were able to upset Minnesota on the road last weekend. A big reason for why the result transpired was the fact that the defense forced three turnovers and came up with a pair of sacks. Standing in the Bucs’ way of a shocking 2-0 start is a home date against another NFC North foe, the Chicago Bears.

One of the more polarizing players in the court of public opinion these days is Bears QB, Justin Fields. Is he a good quarterback or merely an above-average athlete? As far as we’re concerned here, the jury is still out. Fields will always be a threat to extend plays with his legs, but he is also prone to making mistakes. Todd Bowles may not be a great head coach, but he certainly knows defense. The Buccaneers’ front should give the Bears’ atrocious offensive line fits on Sunday.
