Week 9 is here and with it comes another four teams on bye: Buccaneers, Lions, Seahawks and Washington Football Team. This article is not here for the obvious plays, so if you have Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson or Patrick Mahomes, you know what to do. This article will look at fantasy football QBs on the fringe of QB1/Streamer status to help you make the tough choices to win your matchups.

Fantasy Football Start or Sit: Week 9 QBs

    Start: Jalen Hurts vs. Chargers

    Team Name: Love Hurts

After his worst game of the season, and career for that matter for fantasy football purposes, Jalen Hurts is still the QB5 on the season, averaging 23.3 fantasy points per game (fppg). Last week, against the Lions in a game the Eagles won handily, he didn’t need to do much, so he only threw 14 passes, completing nine for 103 yards and no touchdowns. He did add another 71 yards rushing on the day to at least hit double-digits for fantasy points. This was his first game not topping 20 fantasy points on the year and, despite a tough matchup on deck with the Chargers who are allowing only 14.8 fppg to opposing QBs, you can confidently start him again as he will need to do more this week to keep up with the Chargers offense. Look for him to rebound and return QB1 value once again.

    Start: Tua Tagovailoa vs. Texans

Team Name: A Bird in Hand is Worth Tua in the Bush

Since returning back to the field in Week 6, Tua Tagovailoa has been the QB6 on a per-game basis over the past three weeks, averaging 22.4 fppg. While that is a pretty small sample size, he has a great opportunity to keep his success going this week against the Texans, who are giving up 20.4 fppg to opposing QBs on the season. He also has a little added incentive this week with all of the Deshaun Watson to the Dolphins trade rumors. Look for Tagovailoa to make a statement this week about who he feels should be the Dolphins QB for the rest of this season and beyond.

    Sit: Ryan Tannehill at Rams

Team Name: Tannehill to Die On

The King has fallen and, with it, the Titans offense will need to adjust their style without the best RB in the game. This likely will involve more of Ryan Tannehill, A.J. Brown and perhaps Julio Jones, if he can return this week. The Titans will try to make due with some combination of Adrian Peterson, Jeremy McNichols and Dontrell Hilliard, but teams will not have to respect the play-action pass nearly as much with this troika as they had to when Derrick Henry was out there. Now, having to make this transition against the Rams who are only allowing 16.8 fppg to opposing QBs and just added Von Miller before the deadline, this is a situation where you are better looking elsewhere for your QB this week.

    Sit: Matt Ryan at Saints

Team Name: Get Rich or Die Ryan

First off here is wishing all of the best to Calvin Ridley as he takes time off from the game to focus on his mental health. From Weeks 2-7, Matt Ryan was the QB13, as he threw for at least 243 yards and two touchdowns in each start. Last week though, with Ridley out, the Falcons were not able to get much going and could only muster 13 points against the Panthers. Ryan completed 20/27 for only 146 yards with one touchdown pass and two interceptions. This week is another tough matchup against the Saints, who are only allowing 15.2 fppg to opposing QBs. Leave Ryan on your bench.
