Most fantasy owners aren’t affected by the Pittsburgh Steelers and Tennessee Titans being on bye in Week 9. However, the running back position is the one hurt the most, with both Jaylen Warren and Tony Pollard playing damn good football right now. Will Pollard be traded during his bye week? We shall see…
Regardless, through bye weeks, injuries and bad matchups, you may have some serious questions about who to start as your RB2 this week, but I’m here to help with the Week 9 Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em! We have some big names in the article this week.

Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em: Week 9 RBs
Start: Chase Brown Fantasy Outlook vs Falcons (International)
Boy, it has been a tough season to be a Chase Brown fantasy owner. However, he did have a bit of a bounce-back last week. In PPR, he finished as RB14, putting up his third-best fantasy performance this season.
Brown is a must-start in the Week 9 Fantasy Football Start ‘em, Sit ‘em due to the matchup. The Atlanta Falcons have had zero answer for fantasy RBs over the past four weeks, allowing the most fantasy points to the position. To put it in perspective, the Falcons have allowed over 30 fantasy points to opposing RBs in each of the past four games, and they allowed 29 in the game prior to that.
Since Week 4, no team has allowed more rushing touchdowns to RBs than the Falcons (8). That has been Chase Brown’s biggest issue, since he hasn’t scored since Week 1. However, since he has 16 red zone carries this season and a 22.2% goal-line share, he has a strong chance to find paydirt in Week 9.

Start: Jonah Coleman Fantasy Outlook at Panthers
This is not me saying that I think Jonah Coleman is the clear-cut RB1 in the Denver Broncos backfield. The same people saying this are the same people who said the same thing about RJ Harvey. Sean Payton will run multiple running backs, but we do currently have the luxury of Harvey being out. Of course, Tyler Badie will see snaps, but Coleman is a relatively safe start this week.
Again, there is zero doubt that Coleman will split snaps and carries with JK Dobbins. However, Coleman will see more receiving work than Dobbins, and the Panthers’ run defense is bad enough that 10 carries can do plenty of damage. Carolina is allowing 4.8 yards per carry, which is the fifth-most in the NFL. They also allow the second-most fantasy points to RBs.
If you are a Jonah Coleman fantasy owner, you can feel good about playing him in Week 9. Even if he has a top-12 performance, however, this does not mean he will be an every-week starter for you. So, if there is someone willing to give you that value for him, pull the trigger.

Sit: Derrick Henry Fantasy Outlook vs Jaguars
This week is a tough one for Derrick Henry, to put it lightly. The Baltimore Ravens’ offense has been getting worse, and the injuries to both Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley last week don’t improve the outlook. In PPR scoring, since Week 4, Henry has finished QB21, QB5, QB40, QB46 and QB15.
The matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars is a tough one. The Jags allow the fewest fantasy points per game to RBs, and they also allow the fewest yards per carry (3.4). Given the trajectory of both teams, it is likely that Jacksonville wins and controls this game. If Baltimore gets into obvious passing situations as a result, Henry won’t even be on the field.
You may not have a better option than him, but if you do, Derrick Henry is a “sit” in the Week 9 Fantasy Football Start ‘em, Sit ‘em.
Sit: Ashton Jeanty Fantasy Outlook at 49ers
Did Klint Kubiak pull a John Harbaugh with his running back? Possibly, but I’m not willing to bet Ashton Jeanty resumes his role as the majority ball carrier this week.
Last week, the Raiders told Jeanty he would see a reduced role. This led to him seeing two carries and four targets while rookie Mike Washington Jr. carried the ball 25 times. In this Kubiak rub scheme, the running back needs to put his foot in the ground and go upfield. When teaching it, you emphasize to the RB that he gets one cut. Jeanty is used to the offense revolving around him, so he has been dancing far too much instead of getting upfield.
So, for this offense, Washington has shown a playstyle that works much better. Did Ashton Jeanty get the message and will run more decisively now? The Raiders hope so. However, if he doesn’t, he will see the sideline again. If you can, you should sit him until he sees a workload you’re comfortable with. If you need more convincing, the 49ers have a good defense and just added DeForest Buckner to improve the run defense.
