Tight ends continue to be one of the more difficult positions to figure out in fantasy football, and four teams on bye only add to the confusion. This has led to many fantasy owners looking to fantasy TE streamers or Week 5 fantasy football start ’em, sit ’em help at tight end.

Obviously, there are some players who are must-start every single week due to where you drafted them, such as TJ Hockenson, Mark Andrews and Travis Kelce. However, after the top couple of tiers at the tight end position, you may be playing the matchup more than the player himself. To help you through these tough decisions, check out our weekly fantasy football rankings and read on for our Week 5 Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em analysis at TE.

Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em: Week 5 TEs

Start: Zach Ertz Fantasy Outlook vs Bengals

We go to the veteran in Arizona for our first recommendation of this Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em article. Zach Ertz has been strong to start the season, ranking TE10 in PPR scoring. He has showcased a high usage rate, seeing 8+ targets in three of his four games this year.

Now, we can add in a matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals who give up the fourth-most fantasy points to TEs this season. Ertz was already underrated this season, given his production and role. However, this matchup, along with the players on bye, means he is a fantastic player to put in your fantasy football starting lineup.

Start: Logan Thomas Fantasy Outlook vs Bears

Tonight, the Washington Commanders take on the Chicago Bears on Thursday Night Football, and it is looking like a solid matchup for Washington’s offensive players. We saw Sam Howell have one dud this season, and it was when the Buffalo Bills sacked him nine times. The Bears are dead last in sacks per game, at 0.5.

This means the pass rush isn’t a threat, Howell will have time to throw and, most importantly, Logan Thomas shouldn’t have to chip much prior to running his routes. Obviously, this increases his chances of being targeted. Washington also should be able to move the ball on Chicago, getting to the red zone more often than in the average week. This is where Logan Thomas thrives, as his skill set and 6-6 frame make him a go-to option in the end zone. His touchdown probability increases for this week, giving him top-end potential.

Sit: Kyle Pitts Fantasy Outlook vs Texans

We have to include Kyle Pitts in this section of our Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em article because of how high he was drafted. According to ESPN Fantasy at the time of writing, he is in 61% of starting lineups, which is crazy for a player who hasn’t eclipsed 50 yards or scored a touchdown in nearly a calendar year (Oct. 30, 2022).

Kyle Pitts’ air yards are great, proving the Falcons are trying to get him the ball. Still, he is in the “prove it” category for me. I advise anyone to start Pitts until we see him perform well.

Sit: Dalton Kincaid Fantasy Outlook vs Jaguars

As of Thursday morning, I am eight spots lower on Dalton Kincaid than the FantasyPros’ consensus, so it feels like he has to be in this section of the Week 5 Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em. Dawson Knox is a bit banged up, but he should continue to play though. Because of this, it’s a bit confusing why the consensus ranks Kincaid as a top-12 player.

Dalton Kincaid’s best performance was in Week 2 when he totaled five catches for 43 yards. Wow, what a performance. That was TE16 for the week. There is zero reason to play Kincaid until he proves he can be fantasy-relevant, which he hasn’t done yet. Check my fantasy football rankings, since you may have a better option, such as the two “starts” in this Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em article.
