Week 5 fantasy football start ’em, sit ’em TE analysis from FlurrySports includes the likes of Dallas Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson.
As we continue to progress through the start of the NFL season, we continue to get a better idea of who teams really are. Notoriously, though, the fantasy TE position is one that many people choose to stream the best possible lineup week-to-week because of the uncertainty. Whether this was your plan or you have fallen into the path of needing to stream TEs, this article is for you! Below, we will help you make those tough decisions in that tight end grey area, discussing our Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em players!
We do not need to discuss the obvious studs at TE in this weekly Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em article. Yes, you should start Brock Bowers and Trey McBride every week, and it does not matter who they play. Tight end is one of the most-streamed positions in fantasy, so we are looking at that grey area where a player could return starting TE value if the matchup is right, and vice versa.
Now, labeling a player as a “sit” does not mean they are a must-sit player. As always, check out our weekly fantasy football rankings here. You can also become a member to join a group chat with Zach Brunner and other members where all fantasy football start ’em, sit ’em questions are welcomed!

Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em: Week 5 TEs
Start: Jake Ferguson Fantasy Outlook vs New York Jets
This might be a little bit of cheating, but if you are still questioning whether you should start Jake Ferguson at the tight end position or not, this is your sign to. We have him as the second-ranked tight end this week, as he is in line for another big performance with a matchup against the New York Jets. He was able to score his first touchdown of the season last week against the Packers, and as a whole, he has not scored less than 12 points since Week 1. With CeeDee Lamb out, Ferguson’s role to work the middle of the field continues to rise.
This week against the Jets, Ferguson has a great opportunity to put together another double-digit week. The Jets just gave up two touchdowns to Darren Waller and the Miami Dolphins last week. We saw what Dak Prescott was able to do with Ferguson acting as one of the two main targets last week, with a big offensive performance against a good Packers defense. I am expecting something similar this week against the Jets, making him the featured player of our Week 5 Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em.
Start: Dalton Kincaid Fantasy Outlook vs New England Patriots
I understand that you might be low on Dalton Kincaid after he saw just two targets last week against what should have been a great matchup with the Saints. I am here to say that you need to stick with it, because he has another great matchup against the New England Patriots this week. As long as Josh Allen is in town, I am not sure that we will ever see an alpha, number one receiver emerge in Buffalo, so there will always be a role for the tight end position. On the season, the Patriots have given 8.5 fantasy points per week to opposing tight ends, while giving up just under six receptions.
Through four games this season, Kincaid has recorded three touchdowns. When it comes to the tight end position, a touchdown is probably what separates a top-five player from a top-25 player, so seeing Kincaid’s touchdown consistency continue to blossom is a great sign. Buffalo will be able to move the ball in this game, and when they make it down to the red zone, Kincaid will be involved.

Sit: Evan Engram Fantasy Outlook vs Philadelphia Eagles
After coming in with a considerable amount of hype to play that Jimmy Graham role in Sean Payton’s offense, things have yet to really click for Evan Engram. While injuries and inconsistent play have stunted some of that development with Bo Nix, things don’t get much easier this week. Even though he is fully back at practice, Engram and the Broncos have their toughest test of the season this week, against a really good Philadelphia Eagles defense. The Eagles are giving up just an average of two points per game to opposing tight ends this season.
I am expecting the Broncos as a whole to struggle in this game, and I am not sure how many times they will get down to the red zone. If there is not an avenue for Engram to score a touchdown this week, I am not sure how much value he really brings to your fantasy football team. With JK Dobbins, RJ Harvey, Courtland Sutton, Marvin Mims and Troy Franklin, there are just too many guys ahead of Engram on the pecking order for him to be viable, until we see that usage that we thought we were going to earlier this season.
Sit: TJ Hockenson Fantasy Outlook vs Cleveland Browns
Minnesota is in a really weird spot in the NFL right now. Not only are they seemingly underperforming, but they are stuck for a second straight week overseas in a game that no team wants to play in. Not only that, but they are going up against one of the best defenses in the league. With injuries to their quarterback and three starters on the offensive line, it is really hard to trust anyone on the Vikings offense not named Justin Jefferson. And even trusting Jefferson may be tough.
TJ Hockenson has been a disappointment in fantasy football through four weeks so far, as he has just one game with double-digit points. With Jordan Addison coming back recently, that is just that much bigger of a target share he will not be getting. As I stated before, Minnesota is down three offensive linemen, which means Myles Garrett and Mason Graham will be able to rattle Carson Wentz in this game. It is hard for me to believe that there is a consistent target share for Hockenson in this game and, really, any game moving forward until there is some stability at the quarterback and offensive line positions.
