Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em: Week 17 TEs

Start: Gerald Everett Fantasy Outlook vs Broncos

Easton Stick is no Justin Herbert, but the Los Angeles Chargers played well last week after the firing of Brandon Staley. As for Gerald Everett, he quietly turned in one of his best games of the entire season. His seven receptions were a season-high, and he wound up finishing as the TE12 in PPR scoring.

There are two very compelling pieces of evidence that land Everett on the positive side of the Week 17 fantasy football start ’em, sit ’em spectrum. The first is that he has now garnered eight targets in three consecutive games coming in. His yardage totals in those games aren’t great, but targets allow for the opportunity to produce in PPR scoring formats.

The other noteworthy observation concerns this week’s opponent. The Denver Broncos have allowed the most fantasy points per game to opposing TEs. Not only that, but the per-game average is over one full point higher than the next-worst team. Everett could be a sneaky component of a championship-winning lineup or two this weekend.

Start: Chigoziem Okonkwo Fantasy Outlook vs Texans

Another tight end who has been trending in a positive direction recently is Chigoziem Okonkwo. The second-year pro had his best game of the season just last week, catching six of seven targets for 63 yards and a touchdown. When it comes to projecting future success for pass-catchers, target share trends are always a major factor. Okonkwo has now seen at least six targets in three of the last four games.

Due to the overall poor state of the Tennessee Titans offense, relying on big plays and/or touchdowns is next to impossible. However, Okonkwo has a steady and defined role in this offense. Managers who are facing an uphill battle at the position this week could do much worse than the second-year pro. The fact that the Houston Texans have allowed the fourth-most PPR points to opposing TEs only bolsters his case.

Sit: Kyle Pitts Fantasy Outlook vs Bears

Look out, everyone! Kyle Pitts has found the end zone in two of the last three games! He has scored double-digit fantasy points in two of the last three games! Oh, and none of this means anything going forward.

Pitts has only been targeted four times in the last two games. He only has three receptions apiece in the last three. The switch to Taylor Heinicke upgrades the Atlanta Falcons’ passing offense, but it’s a modest boost at best.

Even though the Chicago Bears enter this Week 17 contest allowing the third-most fantasy points per game to opposing TEs, how can one possibly trust Pitts as a fantasy football start ’em, sit ’em play with league championships on the line? We now urge the most ardent Pitts truthers to just let it go. This is not a hill you want to die on with all that is at stake this week.

Sit: Dalton Kincaid Fantasy Outlook vs Patriots

Dalton Kincaid has been irrelevant on the fantasy football front ever since the Buffalo Bills’ Week 13 bye. After scoring double-digit PPR points in five consecutive weeks, he has tallied less than nine combined points in the three games since the bye. Making his outlook even bleaker is the fact that he has played less than 50% of the team’s offensive snaps in each of the last two games.

Oddly enough, Kincaid had one of his best games of the season the first time that the Bills faced the New England Patriots. Of course, that was long before he seemingly fell out of favor as far as the team’s offensive game plan and rotation are concerned. Overall, the Patriots have been a nightmare for opposing TEs this season, allowing the second-fewest PPR points per game.

Add it all up and riding with the Kincaid in Week 17 with fantasy championships hanging in the balance is far from ideal. Check out our fantasy football rankings to see if you have a better fantasy football start ’em, sit ’em option available.
