If you have made it this far in the fantasy football season, you probably have finally figured out your running back position. In this weekly Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em article, we will be talking about the RB2/Flex grey area, where you may have some tough decisions that will need to be made. I am not here to tell you to start Travis Etienne or Jonathan Taylor. Yes, they should be in your lineup, but that would be such a lazy article. Instead, we will dive into that grey area and discuss the player you may truly have questions about!

Now, labeling a player as a “sit” does not mean they are a must-sit player. As always, check out my weekly fantasy football rankings here. You can also become a member to join a group chat with me and other members where all fantasy football start ’em, sit ’em questions are welcomed!

Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em: Week 16 RBs

Start: Michael Carter Fantasy Outlook vs Falcons

FantasyPros’ Expert Consensus Ranking (ECR) Rank: 26

Zach Brunner’s Week 16 Fantasy Football Rankings

The Arizona Cardinals vs Atlanta Falcons game has a projected point total of 48.5, but I think it has a chance to be the highest-scoring game of the weekend. So, we start our Week 16 Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em with a low-owned player who could see heavy usage in this game — Michael Carter. The Cardinals’ backfield is decimated, with injuries to James Conner, Trey Benson and Bam Knight. Now, Carter will be asked to take on a heavier workload against the Falcons.

Atlanta ranks 14th in fantasy points allowed to RBs this season, but this is mostly due to limiting the number of touchdowns scored (13 total). They have allowed 4.5 yards per carry this season, and Carter will push for heavy carries. Last week, he carried the ball 14 times for 56 yards and caught four passes for 38 yards. Over 20 touches and 100 yards feels likely in this game, and Carter has as good a chance to score a touchdown as anyone in this game.

Start: Omarion Hampton Fantasy Outlook at Cowboys

ECR Ranks: 21

Last week was Omarion Hampton’s second game returning from IR. He led the Chargers in rushing, with 15 carries for 61 yards. His past two games were tough matchups, against the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs. This week, he has a chance to explode against the Dallas Cowboys.

The Cowboys have allowed 4.5 yards per carry this season and the seventh-most fantasy points to RBs. Omarion Hampton has at least 60 yards in five straight games, and he is a do-it-all talent that is safe regardless of game script. If the Chargers are able to control the pace a run a lot, then Hampton could push for 20 carries. Should the Cowboys have success and the Chargers need to pass, then Hampton will catch a bunch of passes. He is a high-floor, high-ceiling option in Week 16 of the fantasy football season.

Sit: Ashton Jeanty Fantasy Outlook at Texans

ECR Rank: 25

If you are still starting Ashton Jeanty, I assume you are not competing for a fantasy championship. He feels like an obvious “sit” in the Week 16 Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em. However, clearly, there are some dopes around the industry still propping his value up way higher than they should. Who would have thought that drafting a running back before having a respectable offensive line would go poorly? Oh… me.

Ashton Jeanty has been set down a path of absolutely ruining a football career this season. The running scheme is bad, and the offensive line is worse. There is no passing game to back defenses up, either. Jeanty has scored one touchdown over the past five weeks. He will catch some passes, but that will not be enough against the Houston Texans.

The Texans’ defense is one of the best in the NFL, and the Raiders should be ashamed of their offense. There is no reason to even think about this — sit Ashton Jeanty. Houston has allowed 3.9 yards per carry over the past three weeks, and they have allowed the fourth-fewest rushing yards to running backs this season.

Sit: Kenneth Walker III Fantasy Outlook vs Rams

ECR Rank: 28

Does anyone have any confidence in Kenneth Walker III on Thursday Night Football against the Los Angeles Rams? Walker has just 21 total touches over the past two games, and this includes a single catch in both games. This is not enough usage to be worth a start, especially in a matchup against an efficient defense.

The Rams have been terrific this season, allowing the third-fewest fantasy points to RBs. Aside from low yardage totals, the Rams have also allowed just five total touchdowns to the position in 14 weeks. Walker is splitting time with Zach Charbonnet, making both useless for fantasy football. Because of this split and the offense, you can sit Kenneth Walker III this week, and it could be worth it to drop him for someone else.
