The Week 1 fantasy football start ’em, sit ’em WR analysis from FlurrySports includes the likes of Kansas City Chiefs’ Xavier Worthy.
Depending on the format of your fantasy football league, the wide receiver position could get very tricky. Deep leagues where you have to start three WRs could mean you are basically streaming your WR3. Additionally, the difference between PPR and Standard Scoring leagues can mean the value of pass catchers shifts a ton, leading to many tough fantasy football start ’em, sit ’em decisions.
Players like Drake London, Jaxon Smith-Njigba or Brian Thomas Jr. will not be discussed. Yes, start them. You drafted them early for a reason! Instead, we are more concerned about the low-end WR2 or WR3 area where a player with a solid matchup should return value that is worth the start, and vice versa.
Now, labeling a player as a “sit” does not mean they are a must-sit player. As always, check out my weekly fantasy football rankings here. You can also become a member to join a group chat with me and other members where all fantasy football start ’em, sit ’em questions are welcomed!

Fantasy Football Start ’em’ Sit ’em: Week 1 WRs
Start: Xavier Worthy Fantasy Outlook vs Chargers (in Brazil)
Now, Worthy gets the added bump of Rashee Rice being suspended to start the year. With Travis Kelce drawing much of the defense’s attention in the middle of the field, Worthy will find ways to get space on the edge or behind the defense. So, not only is Worthy seeing a bunch of looks, but these are also valuable looks, given his big-play ability.
The Los Angeles Chargers have an average defense that is looking for improved play out of their cornerbacks. I’m not sure they can hold up through four quarters against Xavier Worthy, which is why he is a “start” in our Week 1 Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em.
Start: Tetairoa McMillan Fantasy Outlook at Jaguars
As for this Carolina Panthers team, we saw Bryce Young take steps forward last season. With some continuity, they are hoping his growth continues. His receiving corps is interesting, but with Adam Thielen traded and Jalen Coker out hurt, Carolina will give Tet McMillan as many targets as he can handle. With him being such a long, smooth athlete, look for him to make a couple of impressive plays in this game, leading to a solid day for fantasy football owners.

Sit: DK Metcalf Fantasy Outlook at Jets
I do believe in the Aaron Rodgers-DK Metcalf connection. However, I also know the respect Rodgers has for Sauce Gardner, and it’s because he’s really damn good. On top of Gardner being a true shutdown cornerback, the Jets’ pass defense last season overall was solid, ranking seventh in completion percentage allowed (62.7%). They will also get after Rodgers in this game. If the ball is coming out quickly, it likely isn’t headed Metcalf’s way.
Instead, look for the Pittsburgh Steelers to keep things simple in this game, playing in a new-look offense. We will see plenty of 12 personnel (two tight ends) and even 13 personnel. They will run the football a lot, since that is how you must attack the Jets. At the end of the day, we are looking at a low-scoring game where DK Metcalf fantasy owners will likely not be happy. If you can, start someone else over him.
Sit: Garrett Wilson Fantasy Outlook vs Steelers
Unfortunately, the someone else you are starting over DK Metcalf may not be in this game. Yes, Garrett Wilson looks to be in a more positive situation than Metcalf, but by how much?
We know the Steelers have playmakers all over the field, and that will start with their defensive front. Unfortunately, the New York Jets just lost Alijah Vera-Tucker, arguably their best lineman, for the season. Justin Fields may not need any help with inaccurate passes. However, TJ Watt, Cam Heyward and others should give him plenty of help in that regard.
I don’t love this passing attack in general. However, in Week 1 against a tough Steelers team, you may want to sit Garrett Wilson in fantasy football.
