The Week 1 fantasy football start ’em, sit ’em TE analysis from FlurrySports includes the likes of Indianapolis Colts’ tight end Tyler Warren.
Ah, yes, the dreaded tight end position in fantasy football. Truthfully, the value at the fantasy TE position has never been higher, with many players being featured for their receiving role. However, there is also a large tier of tight ends where you are praying for a touchdown in order to have relevance.
We do not need to discuss the obvious studs at TE in this weekly Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em article. Yes, you should start Brock Bowers and Trey McBride every week, and it does not matter if they play the Cincinnati Bengals or a team that actually features a defensive side of the ball. Tight end is one of the most-streamed positions in fantasy, so we are looking at that grey area where a player could return starting TE value if the matchup is right, and vice versa.
Now, labeling a player as a “sit” does not mean they are a must-sit player. As always, check out my weekly fantasy football rankings here. You can also become a member to join a group chat with me and other members where all fantasy football start ’em, sit ’em questions are welcomed!

Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em: Week 1 TEs
Start: Tyler Warren Fantasy Outlook vs Dolphins
Last season, the Miami Dolphins allowed the fourth-most targets to tight ends in the NFL. If you do not have an elite tight end, all you are looking for are opportunities. We know the Colts will use Warren all over, and we know tight ends get targeted against the Dolphins. Do the simple math with this one.
It’s possible Warren’s ceiling is not as high as other TEs at this point, since the Colts’ offense isn’t great and Jonathan Taylor should dominate red zone looks. However, he is a “start” in the Week 1 Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em since his floor is so high (and he still has a decent ceiling).
Start: Zach Ertz Fantasy Outlook vs Giants
Zach Ertz is the security blanket for Jayden Daniels. He is the most reliable receiver underneath, and he will continue to make plays that move the chains. Ready for some fun stats regarding Ertz? Last season, he was targeted 91 times, which was his most since 2021. Over 68% of his catches were either for a first down or a touchdown. Needless to say, he is an essential part of this offense under Kliff Kingsbury, who used him a ton in Arizona as well.
This week, the Commanders play the New York Giants. While the Giants’ secondary can be suspect, their defensive line is as good as it gets. If there’s pressure on Daniels, we know what he is going to do — throw it underneath to Zach Ertz.

Sit: Tucker Kraft Fantasy Outlook vs Lions
I don’t hate Tucker Kraft, but I am lower on him both overall this season and for Week 1. So, it makes sense he is on this side of the Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em. As a Packer fan, I love him as a player. For fantasy, he has the potential to be an absolute nightmare.
Did you know that he finished with an average of 17.8 air yards per game last season? That’s disgusting. He added to this by getting fewer than four looks per game. These are the informative, yet off-putting stats you can get if you join the fantasy membership above. Kraft did all of his work after the catch last season. We remember his awesome stiff arm highlights.
Yes, he has the potential to break big plays again. However, I don’t feel great about projecting broken plays made by a tight end that relies on his power. On top of that, Tucker Kraft faces the one team that I would put money on completing tackles in Week 1. The Lions do not shy away from contact, so it could end up being a quiet day for Kraft, if he does not find the end zone.
Sit: Jake Ferguson Fantasy Outlook vs Eagles
Once again, I love Jake Ferguson (On, Wisconsin!). However, this is a matchup you likely will want to avoid for your fantasy football tight end slot this season. I’ll start with the potential positive for him, then let you know why he is on this side of the fence.
The Eagles will likely put a lot of pressure on Dak Prescott. While that could mean the TE is forced to stay in and block, in the case of Ferguson and Dak, we have seen this lead to many checkdowns. In general, Ferguson has often been that guy for Prescott, so getting his quarterback back likely means he returns to form this season.
Now, the matchup. The Philadelphia Eagles’ defense is one of the best in the NFL, and they are especially tough against tight ends. Last season, they gave up the second-fewest fantasy points to TEs per game. They also gave up the fewest yards to the position last season (519). It was without Prescott, but for whatever it is worth, Ferguson has a total of 42 yards in two games against Philadelphia last year.
