The Week 1 fantasy football start ’em, sit ’em RB analysis from FlurrySports includes the likes of Cleveland Browns running back Jerome Ford.
Finalizing your starting fantasy lineup during Week 1 of the season is a stressful task. Yes, you drafted plenty of studs who you know you can lock and forget about as long as they’re healthy. However, that RB2 or Flex spot can get tricky, especially in deeper leagues. This weekly Fantasy Football Start ‘Em, Sit ’em article will be a useful tool in answering some of those tough questions at the running back position.
No, you will not be hearing about Saquon Barkley or Ashton Jeanty. Yes, start them. I won’t be one of those fake fantasy analysts who have the “bold” take that Derrick Henry could be an RB1. Really? No shit.
Instead, this start/sit article discusses those players who live in the grey area. If the matchup is right, they should be in the lineup, but a poor matchup means you could look elsewhere.
Now, labeling a player as a “sit” does not mean they are a must-sit player. As always, check out my weekly fantasy football rankings here. You can also become a member to join a group chat with me and other members where all fantasy football start ’em, sit ’em questions are welcomed!

Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em: Week 1 RBs
Start: David Montgomery Fantasy Outlook at Packers
Jahmyr Gibbs is the flashy player everyone loves in the Detroit backfield, and rightfully so. However, Montgomery is really damn good, and he will do much of his work between the tackles, where that aforementioned Clark-sized hole is. It’s not like Montgomery needed any more help when playing Green Bay, as he has enjoyed his matchups with the Pack.
Start: Jerome Ford Fantasy Outlook vs Bengals
As of writing this on Wednesday night, rookie running back (and typical Cleveland Browns culture fit) Quinshon Judkins has not signed his contract. In other words, he’s not on the team! Could he sign and play this week? Sure, but after missing all of training camp, he will be nothing more than a minimal role even if he is active. Dylan Sampson is the other rookie running back, and he is a great player, too. However, with the Browns wanting to run the ball effectively and keep Joe Burrow off the field, Jerome Ford is going to be the player to benefit this week.
You may be able to pick up a running back right now who could start for you this week! He should get plenty of volume in a great matchup.

Sit: Tony Pollard Fantasy Outlook at Broncos
Honestly, let’s keep this one as simple as possible. I do not want to play anyone facing the Denver Broncos if I don’t have to. With a rookie quarterback in Cam Ward leading the Tennessee Titans, we easily could see a scenario where this offense has a ton of trouble. Tony Pollard wasn’t expected to be the most efficient player this season, so sitting him in a bad matchup is more than fine to do.
The Broncos ranked second in rushing yards per attempt allowed last season (4.0). Good news: they got even better.
Sit: TreyVeyon Henderson Fantasy Outlook vs Raiders
All it takes is for New England Patriots rookie TreyVeyon Henderson to break one play and he could be worth the fantasy start. However, given the conservative nature of the Patriots, as well as the talent in the backfield with him, it would not be surprising to see Henderson get limited touches in his NFL debut. Do I put much stock into the fact that he’s listed as RB3 on the depth chart? Not really, but I do know they like both Rhamondre Stevenson and Antonio Gibson. And, you know, the Patriots under Bill Belichick and Josh McDaniels did popularize the dreaded concept of a “running back by committee.”
I love Henderson as a player. However, I have been trying to get everyone to pump the brakes for his rookie season a little bit. Now, could I look foolish as he goes for 150 yards on six touches against the Raiders? Hell yeah, this Vegas defense is bad. However, there is also a chance he has six touches for 23 yards and a fumble after fighting for that extra yard on first down (love those rookie mistakes).
Simply, TreyVeyon Henderson is on the wrong side of the Week 1 Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em since the range of outcomes is far too large. Roll the dice if you want, but it will be exactly that for several weeks, at the very least. If you have a solid option, consider playing them.
