Jalen Mayfield Draft Profile

Strengths

Youth and athleticism combines perfectly with Jaylen Mayfield. At 20 years old, there’s plenty of growing and improving as a player remaining. Despite being listed at 326 pounds, Mayfield is also extremely athletic and surprisingly nimble. But while he is nimble, he has the power and strength to take the bull rush head on and still win.

Weaknesses

Mayfield’s hand technique is close to terrible, while will give experienced pass rushers the opportunity to swat them away. He also leans and reaches far too often instead of using his feet, leading to too many unbalanced snaps. Finally, while his age can be good for teams capable of developing him, it also means Mayfield is less experienced than most other prospects.

What to Expect From Jalen Mayfield in 2021

At just 20 years old, Jalen Mayfield still has growing to do as a player, which is scary, since he is already a borderline first-round talent. Mayfield is extremely athletic and will be able to handle speed rushers. He also has the power to be a bulldozer. All of his weaknesses can be coached up, so there is every opportunity for Mayfield to be viewed as a steal in a couple years. As for 2021, there will be some growing pains. Hell, the kid played one collegiate game and that was in 2019. He has the ability to develop into a star lineman to hold it down for a long time in Atlanta.
