Miami Dolphins Preview

Despite being short NFL betting favorites on their home field last week, the Dolphins lost outright by double-digits to a previously winless Indianapolis Colts squad. After turning heads last season by winning double-digit games, Miami is off to a very disappointing start in 2021. Backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett will draw one more start on Sunday against the Buccaneers as Tua Tagovailoa will be sidelined for at least one more game. Brissett hasn’t played all that bad in relief, but his 199 yards passing and two touchdowns weren’t enough to get the win last week.

In all fairness to Brissett, he hasn’t exactly had much help around him. The Dolphins offensive line ranks right up there as one of the worst in football. They allowed three sacks in last week’s loss. Miami also coughed up a pair of fumbles. There was no semblance of a rushing attack whatsoever. Malcolm Brown was the team’s leading rusher in Week 4 with a measly 23 yards. While a star-studded secondary has carried the load for the Dolphins defensively, they have struggled a bit when it comes to stopping the run. The Colts nearly had 140 yards on the ground last week against the 20th-ranked adjusted defense against the run, per Football Outsiders.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Preview

Despite being outplayed for the majority of their Week 4 game, the Buccaneers squeaked out a two-point win on the road over the New England Patriots. As if Tom Brady needed anything else to add to his resume, he can now say that he went on the road and beat his former coach. In retrospect, Brady actually didn’t play quite as well as we saw in the first three weeks of the season. While he had 269 yards passing, the Patriots held Tampa Bay’s explosive offense to a single touchdown. That came on the ground, courtesy of Ronald Jones. Mike Evans and Antonio Brown both had seven receptions, but no Bucs receiver came close to eclipsing 100 yards in the win.

Perhaps the most impressive stat from the Buccaneers’ Week 4 victory was the defense holding New England’s run-first offense to -1 yards on the ground. In fact, New England had to abort their run game altogether in order to move the ball offensively. The lethal Tampa Bay front seven figures to be no match for the shaky Dolphins’ O-line in this week’s matchup. Considering that it’s hard to trust the Dolphins to expose the Bucs’ weak secondary, it’s no wonder Tampa Bay is such a sizable NFL betting favorite. In other news, it was great to see Richard Sherman back on the gridiron last Sunday night. He got burned several times but wound up leading the team with seven tackles.
