Do the Eagles Believe in Carson Wentz?

While the Philadelphia Eagles did not lose in Week 3 against the Cincinnati Bengals, it sure feels like a loss. The Eagles and Bengals ended overtime tied, making both teams 0-2-1 this season. Aside from the rarity of a tied final score, among the largest takeaways from this game appears to be the lack of faith in quarterback Carson Wentz.

Carson Wentz Struggles This Season

Entering Week 3, Wentz had been terrible. He was the lowest-rated passer in football through two weeks. Wentz also was accurate on just 40 percent of his passes, and he strangely had a better completion rate when blitzed compared to a clean pocket.

Week 3 didn’t offer much to be confident about. Wentz completed 61.7 percent of his passes for 225 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. He ran for 65 yards and a touchdown, but the Eagles quarterback already gets hit plenty in the pocket; he doesn’t need to invite unprotected contact.

Did the Eagles Give Up on Wentz?

The Week 3 tie certainly brought out the Eagles’ distrust in Wentz. When overtime came, they seemed to play for the tie. Philadelphia didn’t give Wentz a chance to heave and pray at the end of the game to win it. Instead, they would rather punt and take the tie.

This should be the moment where we say the Eagles are likely to call up the Chicago Bears to bring their savior back, but Nick Foles came in and led his team to a comeback victory — something Wentz could not do.
