Even though the 2021 NBA Finals are in full swing, the NBA Draft is quickly approaching. The Denver Nuggets were unable to live up to their full potential, due to Jamal Murray’s torn ACL. The Nuggets will need to reload in free agency and the draft if they are to help MVP Nikola Jokic remain contenders in the Western Conference.
The following is a complete look at the Denver Nuggets needs, as we approach the 2021 NBA Draft and Free Agency.
Denver Nuggets Team Needs
Denver Nuggets Free Agents
Here is a list of the players who are upcoming Denver Nuggets free agents that will either need to be re-signed or replaced.
- Austin Rivers, PG/SG
- Shaquille Harrison, G (RFA)
- Will Barton, SG
- Markus Howard, SG (RFA)
- JaMychal Green, PF (Player-Option)
- Paul Millsap, PF/C
- JaVale McGee, C/PF
The Denver Nuggets should prioritize bringing back one of Paul Millsap, JaMychal Green or JaVale McGee. All three can be brought back relatively cheaply. The Nuggets need the depth in the frontcourt, but they all need quality depth. Possible free agents at the PF position include Blake Griffin, Bobby Portis and Markeiff Morris.
The interesting development as of late for the Nuggets was Will Barton opting out of $14.7 million next season. With Barton gone, the Nuggets could turn to free agents such as Danny Green or Evan Fournier, or they could look to the draft to replace Barton. The Nuggets could also bring back Austin Rivers for cheap depth.

Denver Nuggets Draft Targets
The Denver Nuggets only have one draft pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, so they need to make it count. Ayo Dosunmo would be a great choice for the Nuggets. As a junior, Ayo Dosunmu averaged over 20 points per game and added in six rebounds and five assists. He’s a solid shooter, connecting on 38% of his three-pointers. Possibly the best aspect of Dosunmu’s game is his defense. In college, he was a fierce defender, which would translate to the NBA as long as he puts in the effort. Dosunmu would be an excellent replacement for Will Barton, as he has the talent and experience to contibute immediately.
Miles McBride is a PG/SG from West Virginia, where he hit 41.4% of his attempts from three-point range. McBride is also a solid defender. While Dosunmu is a solid defender, he is a bit more of a playmaking point guard than McBride. Miles McBride’s game would translate much for as a “Three-and-D” type of player who would thrive off the bench. He also has the size (6-2, 200 lbs) to keep up with stronger, older and savvier players.
