DeAndre Hopkins Instagram Post Links Julio Jones Trade to the Cardinals

The NFL offseason has been dominated by stars switching teams or being upset with their own team. The recent headline that combines the two has been the reports of a Julio Jones trade looming. We knew before the 2021 NFL Draft that the Atlanta Falcons were interested in trading Jones. Now, we know Julio asked for a trade months ago.

Talks of landing spots have been the discussion all over sports media. The show was stolen by Shannon Sharpe today, with him calling Julio live on Skip and Shannon: Undisputed. Julio told the show that he is on his way out of Atlanta, and he does not want to join the Dallas Cowboys, since he wants to go to a team with a chance to win a Super Bowl.

Enter DeAndre Hopkins into the conversation.

    DeAndre Hopkins Instagram Post

Hopkins posted an Instagram image today showing a picture with himself, Michael Irvin, A.J. Green and Julio all together at the Pro Bowl. His caption reads “Julio u remember what we talked about.”

Presumably, the three wide receivers talked about how great it would be to team up and win a Super Bowl together. Fielding all three Pro Bowl wide receivers at the same time would be a nightmare for defenses, as it creates one-on-one coverage and a mismatch on the field at all times.

This offseason, the long-time Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Green made the decision to play in the desert, becoming teammates with Hopkins. The missing piece now seems to be Julio Jones on the Cardinals.

Cardinals Going All-In on Super Bowl

Julio said today that he would not want to play for the Cowboys since he wants to win a Super Bowl. This leads us to ask if the Cardinals have a better shot than Dallas in the NFC.

The Cardinals have proven that they are in “win-now” mode. Last year, they traded for DeAndre Hopkins to pair with Kyler Murray. This offseason, they won the J.J. Watt sweepstakes, hoping to create one of the more dangerous defenses in the NFL. Arizona added A.J. Green to the receiving corps, then drafted playmakers on both offense and defense. Is Julio the missing puzzle piece?

One of the easiest ways to build a contending team quickly is to build around a quarterback on a rookie contract. We saw this with Russell Wilson, then with Jared Goff. If Kyler Murray continues to progress as a passer, Arizona could be the next NFC West team with a young quarterback on track to compete for a Super Bowl.
