It’s been quite an eventful week for Dallas Cowboys news, meaning we have a lot to talk about in our Cowboys weekly update. There’s news ranging from a healthy Dak Prescott spotting OTAs, injury updates on Cowboys key o-line players, a major jersey number change and a rumor about a possible landing spot in Dallas for Julio Jones.

Dak Prescott Injury Update, Spotted at OTAs

Cowboys Nation kicked the week off with a smile, as Dak Prescott was spotted on the field during OTAs. Although reports on Twitter stated that he was still limited, it was another noticeable bound in his recovery.

Reports stated that Dak is being cautious on the field, but isn’t necessarily limited in what he is doing.

Dak took to Instagram following his OTAs with a simple message. “Dear Adversity, Thank you for the Opportunity!” he wrote with pictures of him taking part in OTAs with his team.

The comment section on this post was far from disappointing, as teammates, current and former NFL players, other sports organizations, fans and many more showed their support for Dak.

One of the comments on this post included supportive words from former QB Troy Aikman. He wrote “Lookin’ good pal!” which is great to see from one GOAT to another.

Speaking of quarterbacks, Patrick Mahomes showed some love for Dak, commenting three emojis symbolizing strength.

Some of Dak’s teammates commented, including WR Michael Gallup, RB Tony Pollard and rookie WR Simi Fehoko.

Cowboys Weekly Update on OTAs and Injuries

Also spotted on the field during OTAs was OTs La’el Collins and Tyron Smith, both coming off of injuries from last season as well.

OT La’el Collins was put on IR before the 2020 season even started, as he suffered a hip injury that required surgery. As for OT Tyron Smith, he suffered a neck injury during the 2020 season that also required surgery.

The offensive line was in a nightmare situation and had a noticeable struggle last season with the absence of these two. Luckily for Cowboys fans, they are both back on the field look ready to protect their QB1 for the upcoming season.

Head coach Mike McCarthy mentioned that they are both in great shape and “right where they need to be” during a press conference .

Jaylon Smith Swiping a Jersey Number

One of the most heated debates from our Cowboys weekly news update is Jaylon Smith officially switching his jersey number from 54 to 9.

This was a very emotional transition for Cowboys Nation, since the last time we saw a No. 9 jersey for the Cowboys was for Tony Romo.

Reports stated that Smith paid big money for the number change. Todd Archer also reported that Smith did in fact reach out to Romo before making the change official.

Although there was mixed emotions from Cowboys Nation around this decision, Smith took to social media, stating how much the number 9 has meant to him in his life.

“It is a part of me,” he wrote. “This number has helped me learn how to handle hardship with grace and understanding.” Smith went on to discuss how he wore No. 9 since he was a child and how it represents so much of his life’s story.

He went on to say that his old jersey number 54 was an even an ode to his favorite number 9, since you get the number 9 when adding them up.

Smith then ended his statement with saying that he is “locked in and ready for the 2021 season.” According to him, he gave Cowboys Nation his word to dominate on defense this year.

Cowboys News Update: Julio Jones Shuts Down Cowboys Rumors

When it comes to rumors around the NFL, the Cowboys always end up being right at the center of discussion. It was rumored that Dallas could be a landing spot for Falcons WR Julio Jones, after a picture circulated of him wearing a Cowboys hoodie.

This was quickly shut down after a live segment on Undisputed with broadcasters Skip Bayless, Jenny Taft and Shannon Sharpe.

Sharpe called Julio Jones during a live broadcast, asking him if he wants to go to Dallas. Although Julio said he wants out of Atlanta, it doesn’t mean he’s heading to Dallas. Julio said he “wants to win,” but made it clear that he doesn’t see that happening in Dallas.

Cowboys News Update: Ben McAdoo Comes to Dallas

Last, but certainly not least, the Dallas Cowboys made a new hire with a former rival this week. Former New York Giants head coach Ben McAdoo is now the Cowboys’ newest consultant.

McAdoo served as the Jacksonville Jaguars’ QB coach during the 2020 season, but was released.

It’s important to note that there are ties with McAdoo and Mike McCarthy. They previously worked together in Green Bay.
