Dak Prescott’s unexpected tweet from Tuesday continues to prove why the Dallas Cowboys invested in more than just a solid quarterback on the field, but off of the field as well.
A Star Shines Bright on the Darkest Days
Megan Cichocki never thought she would have something in common with the QB of her team, much less that something being mental heath struggles. Her idol being not only the QB of her beloved Dallas Cowboys, but also a player she has followed since his time at Mississippi State. That player being none other than Dak Prescott himself.
“If you know me you know how I feel about Dak,” said Megan.
In late 2020, Dak Prescott publicly opened up about his struggles with anxiety and depression. It was then that Megan realized she wasn’t facing these problems alone. In fact, her idol was facing the same battle in his mind that she was. Megan says she has struggled with anxiety and depression for awhile now, but that Dak has been an inspiration to her even on the darkest of days.
Dak coming forward to talk about his mental health struggles after losing his Mother and brother Jace, going through a season-ending injury and a long quarantine is what inspired Cichocki to get the help she needed. “I even told myself “if he can do that then I can reach out and get help,”” said Cichocki.
Cichocki adding in that she has always been so proud of Dak for using his platform to break the negative stigma surrounding mental health.
Dak Prescott’s Unexpected Tweet Came When Needed Most
Megan never thought she would get the chance to thank Dak for how influential he has been in her life. Little did she know that her chance would come on Tuesday in the form of a very unexpected tweet.
After posting an emotional tweet about Dak and how she thought that it was “wild how a person that will never know you exist can save your life” she received a notification on her phone from Dak’s Twitter account.
Megan said she opened her phone thinking Dak’s account was tweeting an ad, since he is rarely active on Twitter.
Dak Prescott’s unexpected tweet was actually words of wisdom he shared, specially in response to what she had tweeted earlier. Her idol quote tweeted her saying “stay strong and embrace those though dark moments! You’ll find out how strong you are!”
After opening her phone to see what had happened, Megan said she pulled over, stared at her phone, and started crying. “No one ever tells you what to say when your inspiration speaks to you,” she added. “The craziest part about all of this is that I didn’t even use his handle, I didn’t even tag him in it because we all know he’s rarely on Twitter,” said Cichocki.
A New Found Appreciation from Dak Prescott’s Unexpected Tweet
After already being a Dak fan, Megan found an even deeper appreciation for him after experiencing first-hand the class-act that he has displayed time and time again.

It took minutes for the interaction and Dak Prescott’s unexpected tweet blow up on Twitter. Megan saying it’s been overwhelming but, also, comforting to see how happy everyone is for her. “Everyone’s just been so happy for me and that makes it even better,” added Cichocki.
As for one last message to Dak, Megan says she has two words for him — thank you.
“Thank you for opening up about it [mental health], thank you for taking the stigma down, and thank you for taking the time to reach out to a fan who truly needed it,” she said holding back tears.
