Gushue’s team Canada won a national title, Olympic bronze, and silver last year. That said, they are entering the Brier event as defending champions. Manitoba is currently ranked No. 1 in the Canadian team ranking system this season, and Dunstone is looking for his Brier breakthrough after finishing third in 2020 and ’21.

Skip of two teams, reigning champion Brad Gushue of Team Canada and Kevin Koe of Team Alberta, will be looking to win the Tim Hortons Brier for the record-breaking fifth Time, after both winning four Tim Hortons Brier titles, joining Ernie Richardson, Randy Ferbey and Kevin Martin.

Meanwhile, Matt Dunstone will appear as skip of Team Manitoba for the first time in his fifth Tim Hortons Brier. Talking about the Manitoba, the side from Winnipeg is entering the event as the leading team at the Canadian Team Ranking System. Meanwhile, Wild Card 2 looks different this time after Jason Gunnlaugson’s departure in December.

Curling Brier 2023 Format:

Another aspect that distinguishes and elevates the Tim Hortons Brier is the wild card selection procedure. The procedure is set up to give the teams (who didn’t qualify for the tournament) a chance to participate. The top two teams on the CTRS standings who did not win their provincial championships formerly competed in a wild card game; the winner was often chosen for the last berth in the tournament.

As opposed to the customary one, Curling Canada has now opted to feature three wild card teams. These groups are intended to advance without taking part in a play-in game. The first two instances of this Wild Card Selection format were in 2021 and 2022, respectively.
