Dallas Cowboys Preview
After a lost season one year ago, the Cowboys have been one of the most impressive teams through five weeks in 2021. Dallas’ lone loss came in close fashion on opening night against the defending Super Bowl champs. Since then, the Cowboys have rattled off four straight wins. They rank second in scoring offense and are also the only team with a perfect NFL betting record ATS entering Week 6. Considering the vast array of playmakers on offense, it’s no surprise to see the Cowboys moving the ball at will. Dak Prescott’s comeback tour continued last Sunday with over 300 yards through the air and three touchdowns. Ezekiel Elliott has been a stat sheet-stuffer the past few weeks. He had another 110 yards rushing and two total touchdowns last week. Even backup RB Tony Pollard has been a weekly contributor for Dallas.
If there is one potential cause for concern on offense entering this week’s NFL betting matchup, it’s the health of top wideout Amari Cooper. He was banged up going into last week’s blowout of the New York Giants. While Cooper played through it and even scored a TD, he took another blow in the game when his ankle got rolled up on. Luckily, Prescott also has CeeDee Lamb and tight end Dalton Schultz at his disposal in the passing game. The Cowboys’ defense has been a great story thus far as well. Dan Quinn has completely transformed a unit that ranked near the bottom of the league one year ago. Dallas now sits sixth in adjusted defensive efficiency, per Football Outsiders.
New England Patriots Preview
The casual NFL betting fan might look at the Patriots’ last-second win last week over the lowly Houston Texans and dismiss this team as a quality opponent. However, it should be noted that New England was without four starting offensive linemen. The fact that Mac Jones was still able to lead them back to get the win, under those circumstances, is nothing to sneeze at. With a week of rest to get healthy, the Patriots undoubtedly made the move with their sights set on this Sunday’s showdown against a much tougher opponent.
While New England should be much healthier upfront, running back Damien Harris is a true “questionable” ahead of Week 6. The fact that he was at least able to practice in a limited capacity on Thursday is encouraging. Expect rookie Rhamondre Stevenson to assume a larger role if Harris can’t go. While the Pats don’t have any bonafide superstars in terms of pass-catchers, they do have several capable weapons. Last week, it was Hunter Henry’s turn to lead the way. The tight end caught six balls for 75 yards and a score. As impressive as Dallas has looked offensively thus far, Bill Belichick will undoubtedly have a plan in place for his defense to take away the Cowboys’ best weapons.
