While the Super Bowl is quite clearly the main betting attraction on Sunday, there are some sneaky good college basketball matchups available as appetizers. Colorado State Rams Preview

After a brief two-game skid, Colorado State basketball has gotten back on track by winning three straight. The signature win during the recent stretch saw the Rams avenge a blowout loss to San Diego State with a one-point home win. CSU also took care of Nevada and Fresno State in comfortable order to run their Mountain West Conference record to 9-3 on the season.

Colorado State relies heavily on a star duo to carry the load offensively. David Roddy ranks fourth in the Mountain West averaging 19.3 points per game. Isaiah Stevens is not far behind at 15.5. Despite leaning into Roddy and Stevens so heavily, the Rams lead the MWC in scoring offense averaging 76.9 points per game. CSU has also benefitted from terrific three-point shooting at various points this season. Both Roddy (49.3%) and John Tonje (46.0%) in particular have been lights-out shooting from beyond the arc.

Boise State Broncos Preview

Boise State basketball has only suffered one setback in Mountain West Conference play to date. That came in the form of a seven-point road loss at Wyoming 10 days ago. The Broncos responded by throttling San Jose State last weekend and also beat UNLV earlier this week. BSU is tied with Wyoming atop the conference standings at 10-1. Overall, Boise State has now won 16 of their last 17 college basketball betting matchups following a 3-4 start to the season.

The Broncos feature tremendous depth and versatility on offense with four players averaging in double figures scoring on the season. While Abu Kigab leads the way at 14.1 points per game, the backcourt tandem of Emmanuel Akot and Marcus Shaver Jr. is capable of going off at any given moment as well. Freshman forward Tyson Degenhart has also been a true revelation this season for Leon Rice’s squad. Both he and Akot are shooting over 40% from three-point range on the season. Of course, Boise’s main calling card is a stingy defense that has only surrendered 59.2 points per game to opponents so far this season.

Colorado State vs Boise State Prediction | College Basketball Betting Picks

When it comes to reliable offensive depth, Boise State possesses a clear advantage in this matchup. The fact that Colorado State relies so heavily on Roddy and Stevens could prove detrimental especially against such a stout defensive opponent. The Broncos figure to be able to key in on the top two Rams’ scorers. If other players fail to step up, it could be a long afternoon for CSU.

Another key advantage that Boise State will have in this matchup is on the interior. Colorado State’s lack of size is reflected in the fact that the 6’6” Roddy leads the team in rebounding. The Broncos will have a distinct post advantage in Mladen Armus. The 6’10” Serbian comes in averaging 8.2 rebounds per game and could realistically dominate the interior on Sunday.

Add in home-court advantage and one has to like the Broncos’ chances of covering the short college basketball betting spread. For what it’s worth, NumberFire’s game projections give Boise State a 67.1% chance to win this game outright. This would suggest that the value lies squarely with the home team given that the current moneyline implied probability is only 55.6%.
