Florida Gators Overview
Dan Mullen continues to build up his brand as a quarterback whisperer, thanks to the impressive play of Kyle Trask. Trask has thrown 10 touchdown passes in just two games on the young 2020 season. He has piled up 684 yards passing and has looked every bit the part of a generational talent at the position. NFL scouts, take note. Along with Mullen’s current QB in Gainesville, transfer Feleipe Franks is also playing very well at Arkansas so far this season.
Trask’s game certainly is helped by the bevy of talented wideouts the Gators bring to the table. Of course, Trask’s favorite target of all is tight end Kyle Pitts, who has 12 receptions through the first two games. After surrendering 435 yards and 4 touchdowns to Mac Jones and the Alabama passing attack last week, the expert College Football picks are assuming Texas A&M will have a tough time slowing down the Gators attack. Defensively, Florida’s numbers have regressed from a season ago. They come in giving up 5.85 yards per play and 29.5 points per game over the first two. Florida did hold South Carolina down in last week’s 38-24 win, a game that wasn’t nearly as close as the final score indicated. They’ll look to bring a similar effort and continue to improve against the Aggies this week.
Texas A&M Aggies Overview
Despite being the SEC’s most experienced quarterback in terms of playing time entering the season, Kellen Mond has been far from the conference’s best through the first two weeks of SEC play. Mond comes into Saturday’s matchup against Florida with a completion percentage of just 58.3%, 507 yards passing, and 4 touchdowns. Like Trask, Mond’s favorite target through the first two games has been his tight end as Jalen Wydermyer leads all Aggies with 10 receptions. Pass-catching back Ainias Smith leads the team in receiving yards (150) and his versatility has been a big part of the Aggies offense in the first two games.
Defensively, it all figures to come down to what success (if any) Texas A&M can generate in getting after Kyle Trask. The secondary is simply not talented enough to hold up against Florida’s prolific passing offense. The Aggies’ ability to generate pressure and force Trask to speed up his reads and decision-making could be the key to this week’s College Football Picks Spotlight Game. No amount of pressure will stifle Florida for a full 60 minutes though, meaning Mond and the offense will need to produce more points than they have in each of A&M’s first two games.
