CJ Allen Scouting Report
Strengths
CJ Allen wore the green dot at Georgia, serving as the on-field leader of the defense. He is a steady and instinctive playmaker who understands how to use leverage to his advantage. He shows excellent patience when working through traffic against the run and consistently sheds blocks to finish plays. As a tackler, his technique and reliability stand out among the best in this draft class.
Allen also displays strong awareness in both run and pass situations, using his eyes effectively to put himself in position to make plays. While his interception production was limited in college, he showed the ability to read quarterbacks and disrupt passing lanes over the middle. He also demonstrates good timing and disguise as a blitzer.
Weaknesses
Allen’s athletic profile may limit his ceiling at the next level. While he has adequate size and strength, his speed and pursuit ability are average, and he can appear somewhat tight in his movements. This lack of top-end range may be exposed against faster offenses and more athletic blockers in the NFL.
He is not a linebacker who consistently creates splash plays or overwhelms blockers with physical tools. Improving his anticipation will be important to help him beat blocks to the spot rather than taking them on directly. Additionally, while he is comfortable in zone coverage, he offers limited upside in man coverage and could be vulnerable in mismatches against quicker skill players.
