Strengths
Christian Gonzalez is arguably the best defensive back in the 2023 NFL Draft for many reasons, but the main one being his ability to stick to receivers and match their release. He has incredible speed and good size that give him all the physical tools needed to be a premier defensive back at the NFL level. He is good at jamming receivers at the line and has good instincts, often knowing the route of his receiver before the snap against BYU. Of all the defensive backs in the draft, he has the cleanest tape and there aren’t many tools he doesn’t have.
Weaknesses
The biggest problem with Gonzalez is that he leaves something to be desired when it comes to making breaks on the ball. He lacks the anticipation that one would look for in a defensive back to jump routes. At times he can also be slow in turning his head around on deep balls downfield.
