Los Angeles Chargers Preview
Justin Herbert and the Chargers’ offense looked borderline unstoppable last Sunday in a shootout win over the Cleveland Browns. It’s very hard to believe that this is only Herbert’s second season in the NFL. He fell just two yards shy of 400 through the air last week while also throwing four TD passes. Austin Ekeler had over 110 total yards in the win and scored three touchdowns. Herbert has also finally enabled wideout Mike Williams to reach his full potential. He got behind the Browns’ defense multiple times last week on his way to 165 yards receiving and two scores.
Entering last week’s NFL betting matchup, the Chargers were a top-five defense in points allowed. It comes as no surprise that they dropped in those rankings after giving up 42 to the Browns. However, this remains an uber-talented and capable unit across the board. The Bolts have been particularly stout against the pass, ranking 11th in adjusted efficiency in this area according to Football Outsiders. The injury statuses of both linebacker Drue Tranquill and safety Nasir Adderley will be something to monitor ahead of Sunday’s contest.
Baltimore Ravens Preview
Speaking of offenses looking unstoppable, how about Lamar Jackson and the Ravens comeback win last Monday night? After struggling to sustain drives the entire first half, Baltimore rallied late and went on to knock off the Indianapolis Colts in a wild overtime finish. Jackson is firmly in the NFL betting conversation to win league MVP, after passing for 442 yards and four scores. Known for their run-first approach offensively, the Ravens showed that they just might have a passing offense to match this season. The performance was a testament to Jackson’s growth and development.
Baltimore’s top two pass-catchers both had a massive game in the Week 5 win as well. Tight end Mark Andrews and wideout Marquise Brown, both went well over 100 yards receiving while each catching two TD passes. Jackson also led the team in rushing yards by the game’s end. The health of lineman Ronnie Stanley and Alejandro Villanueva will be huge for the Ravens’ ground game in this Week 6 NFL betting showcase. Defensively, Baltimore is ravaged with injuries. The unit ranks well below any Ravens’ D in recent memory. Despite the adversity, they were still able to rise up late in the game. Calais Campbell came up with a game-saving field goal block as time expired in regulation.
