Fernando Mendoza vs Ty Simpson: Who to Draft in Dynasty Fantasy Football?

May 10, 2026

If you are entering your dynasty fantasy football rookie draft in need of some help at the wide receiver position, you are in luck! With the ample amount of wide receiver talent in this year’s draft class, there are many different options that you can go to help fix your team. This also means you will be presented with several questions about which first-round wide receiver you should be targeting.

Those discussions arise as soon as the second pick in your rookie draft. After Jeremiyah Love gets selected first, the question of Carnell Tate vs Jordyn Tyson comes into play. Both players were drafted to teams with young quarterbacks and innovative play-callers, so the future looks bright for both. This discussion really comes down to ceiling versus floor, as each player is expected to play a little different role on their respective teams.

Let’s discuss whether Carnell Tate or Jordyn Tyson appears to be the better value pick in dynasty fantasy football rookie drafts. You can see where they are ranked in the FlurrySports dynasty fantasy football rookie rankings here!

Carnell Tate Fantasy Football Outlook

The Tennessee Titans shocked some when they selected Ohio State’s Carnell Tate with the fourth pick in the NFL Draft. He now teams up with Cam Ward and Robert Salah in an offense that needs a go-to receiving weapon. He walks into a receiving room that features Calvin Ridley, Wan’Dale Robinson and Chimere Dike. Given Ridley’s tumultuous career since his breakout season in Atlanta, it is really hard to trust that he will be available on a game-to-game basis for the Titans.

With Robinson not having the prototypical build to be a number one receiver, there will be an open battle to be Ward’s top option. Tate profiles to be a solid outside receiver. He excelled at tracking down deep balls in college and has shown good game speed.

When looking at this roster through a fantasy football lens, Tate appears to have a solid role immediately. If Ridley is playing, Tate should start on the other side of the field, while Robinson works the slot. Given what we have seen from Ridley when he has been at his best, I would imagine that defenses give him the number one coverage treatment, which means that Tate should see number two coverage at least early in his career.

So, what is the Carnell Tate fantasy football outlook? Tate will be used in the offense almost immediately, but given the receivers in the same room as him, it may be some time before we see Tate become a WR1 when it comes to fantasy football. Despite Tate not being in a WR1 role in college and a lingering calf injury at Ohio State, as well as the mystery of whether Tate can handle a strong workload, there is a road for Tate to be Ward’s go-to guy come the end of his rookie season and into the future.

Jordyn Tyson Fantasy Football Outlook

The Saints selected Jordyn Tyson eighth overall in the 2026 NFL Draft. Tyson has all of the intangibles to be a great receiver in the NFL, but he was not really expected to be the top receiver selected in the draft. Despite this, many believed he was the best at his position in the class. Tyson landing in New Orleans might be the best spot that a receiver went in the draft. Even with Chris Olave in New Orleans, there is not much else in the receiving room that should be a complete detriment to Tyson’s fantasy value.

Even with Olave ready to reprise his role as the top option in New Orleans, the jury is still out on how long he can continue to do so. Given his history with concussions, as well as his contract expiring at the end of the season, the Saints may be more inclined to roll with Tyson as their WR1 option, rather than pay Olave with the question marks surrounding him.

When looking at Tyson with the Saints, there are many things to love. Tyler Shough was a surprise last season. He was written off as a bust even before he started playing, but Shough showed he has the potential to be a starting quarterback for the foreseeable future for the Saints. As I stated before, Olave may not have many more years in New Orleans, so Tyson playing alongside him early in his career should help him develop.

Tyson’s big body also helps him expose the middle of the field, which is something that Juwan Johnson has recently been tasked with. Shough has shown that throwing to the middle of the field really plays into his strengths, so Tyson should have an immediate payoff in a Saints offense that looks ready to compete in the NFC South.

Should I Draft Carnell Tate or Jordyn Tyson in Dynasty Fantasy Football Drafts?

If you’re taking a wide receiver, should you draft Carnell Tate or Jordyn Tyson in dynasty fantasy football drafts? In rookie PPR drafts, Tate currently has an ADP of second, while Tyson is taken at third. There is not much of a difference when it comes to ADP, but given that both players are expected to play immediately, there is a major question about who you should take if you have the second pick.

My answer to who you should draft is kind of a cop-out. If you are sitting at 1.02 and don’t know who to draft, I would recommend offering the 1.02 for the 1.03 and a third-round pick or a veteran player. That way, that fantasy owner can decide for you. But if this is not an option, the real answer is you probably can’t go wrong, but I am more excited to take Jordyn Tyson, given the target share and his WR1 potential in future seasons.

At this point, Tate comes into the season with a safer floor, given that Olave will hound targets from Tyson, but over the long run, Olave’s history with injuries, as well as the contract situation, make Tyson that much more interesting. That makes Tyson a little bit more of a gamble, but in dynasty fantasy football, these are the decisions that we have to make to get our teams to that next level.
