Campbell Camels Preview:

Campbell Camels are coming to the game at 2-1 on the season. They started the season with a close 34-24 defeat to reigning CAA co-champion William & Mary. The Camels trounced The Citadel in Week 2, winning 56-7.

For the Week 3 fixture, they traveled to Monmouth and secured a 45-31 victory, which marked their second largest come-from-behind win (16-point deficit, 23-7) all-time, only behind their 48-31 win at North Alabama in 2021.

Campbell ranks 5th in scoring offense in the FCS, averaging 41.7 points per game. They also rank 10th best in total offense in the nation at 452.7 yards per game.

The Camels have scored 101 points in the last two games and are averaging 41.7 per game. They rank 9th in the nation in total offense and are running and passing the ball effectively.

The Camels are averaging 198.3 yards on the ground, and QB Hajj-Malik Williams is completing 75% of his passes (63-of-84 throws), third-best in the country. Also, he is sixth best in the country in passing efficiency, 17th in passing yards, and 21st in passing touchdowns.

Redshirt senior QB is averaging 254.3 passing yards/game and five total TDs and has also rushed for three scores, logging his 13th career game with both a passing and a rushing touchdown last week.

On the other side of the ball, Campbell Camels allow opponents to run for 210 yards/game and are among the bottom ten teams in the nation in tackles for loss and QB sacks. Opponent teams are averaging 402.3 yards of offense.

Jalen Kelsey has posted a team-high 175 yards receiving on 11 grabs, while Chaney Fitzgerald and VJ Wilkins have caught two touchdowns. NaQuari Rogers and Lamagea McDowell both own three touchdowns on the ground, combining for 362 yards.

Defensively, CJ Tillman has registered a team-best 16 tackles with 1.0 for loss, while Monchovia Gaffney owns 13 tackles.

Elon Phoenix Preview:

Elon (1-2) started the 2023 season with its first non-Saturday game since 2017, took on against in-state FBS opponent Wake Forest and lost 37-17. Week 2 also didn’t go well for Phoenix, lost against Gardner-Webb (34-27).

However, with the start of conference play, things got turned around, and the Phoenix rolled to a 27-3 win over CAA newcomer North Carolina A&T. That said, they’d be looking to remain unbeaten in CAA play as they face Campbell today.

Through the three games, Justin Allen and Matthew Downing have combined for 406 yards, with the latter tossing four touchdowns. Meanwhile, Jalen Hampton averages 106.3 rushing yards/game with a touchdown.

Defensively, Bo Sanders has posted 19 tackles, with Caleb Curtain adding 15 tackles, including 2.5 for loss and two INTs.

Elon Phoenix’s win would be the program’s fifth consecutive CAA victory, the second straight 2-0 start to CAA play, and would keep the program undefeated against Camels.
