Amidst a wait to finish a season, which was disappointing from the start, the Chicago Bulls are making changes. Though the 2019-20 season is not technically over, the Bulls made the move to name a new Executive VP of Basketball Operations in Arturas Karnisovas.
Success of Arturas Karnisovas
Denver had a great deal of success under the guidance of Karnisovas, who had been the assistant GM of the Nuggets from 2013 to 2017 before taking over as the head GM. Their string of success included three 50+ win seasons and a top three playoff seed each time.
He also had a hand in drafting Nikola Jokić and Jamal Murray, who are both incredible basketball players and have been the key piece in lifting that franchise out of the purgatory of mediocrity.
Utah Jazz Fans should have an appreciation for him as well, because they acquired two more Denver draft selections who turned out to be pretty darn good, in Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell.
A Much-Needed Change
All signs point to brighter days ahead for Bulls fans, who have been waiting for a front office restructure that they thought was happening years ago.
The Bulls have really never recovered from the ultimate disappointment of the Derrick Rose tenure. They have won a measly 71 combined games in the last three seasons and have only made the playoffs one time since 2015, doing so as the eighth seed.
Karnisovas will have his hands full with new responsibility, as he starts his journey with this storied franchise.
The Bulls have a talented young core and, with the right picks in the 2020 NBA Draft, they may find themselves taking the next few steps down the path that returns them to greatness.
