Each year, there are a few players who, for some reason or another, are late bloomers. There are also a handful of prospects who may not get the attention they deserve because they play at smaller schools. When it comes to Bryce Lance, he’s an odd blend of both, playing at North Dakota State but failing to record more than a reception in a season until his junior year in 2024. Even though he started slow, he made up for lost time, posting over 2,100 receiving yards and 27 touchdowns in his last two seasons. Even with plenty of other, more proven receivers in this draft, Bryce Lance will be a very interesting prospect for multiple NFL teams.

Bryce Lance Scouting Report
Strengths
It’s hard to watch Bryce Lance and not immediately see the parallels between him and Christian Watson. Both are tall, speed demons from North Dakota State and both looked borderline unstoppable at times at the FCS level. He possesses strong hands and incredibly polished ball skills for a player at the collegiate level. He has incredible footwork and has also shown plenty of value as a red zone target in goal-line situations. He does a great job at boxing out corners and coming back to the throw when necessary.
Weaknesses
As with his strengths, it’s hard not to watch Bryce Lance and see parallels between him and Christian Watson. While he was incredibly productive over his final two seasons, it is important to remember the competition he lined up against. He does have burner speed, but he’ll have to work on other aspects of his game to make it at the NFL level. His speed won’t be enough to coast by on like it was at times in college.
He also struggles with running routes at times and will need to refine his game underneath on short and medium routes. Lance isn’t the most agile or quick off the line and will struggle initially against press coverage. For all the great acrobatic catches he makes, he also has a bad tendency to catch balls with his body, which will be a problem at the NFL level.
