Compared to last week, this NFL Sunday was severely lacking in terms of upsets and results on the field. That being said, there were still a whole bunch of surprising fantasy football performances. The running back position in particular was led by a handful of unlikely players. As one can imagine, with surprising names posting some of the best lines, there were also some typical fantasy football studs who served up extremely disappointing performances on Sunday. Week 10 serves as a reminder that even predictable results can yield unexpected fantasy football stat lines.
The following article looks at some of the biggest fantasy football disappointments from Week 10 of the NFL season across each position. This week’s notable fantasy busts include Josh Jacobs, Cordarrelle Patterson, DK Metcalf and Darren Waller.
Week 10 Fantasy Football Disappointments | RB
Josh Jacobs | Las Vegas Raiders
Stat Line: 7 carries, 16 yards; 5 receptions, 20 yards
PPR Fantasy Points: 8.6 (RB34)
Not only was the Raiders’ defense torched by a rejuvenated Kansas City Chiefs offense on Sunday Night Football, but it was also a very poor showing for Las Vegas’ own defensive stars. This includes running back Josh Jacobs, who was held to just 16 yards rushing on seven carries. The large deficit forced the Raiders into a pass-heavy offensive approach for much of the second half. Jacobs salvaged his PPR fantasy day somewhat by grabbing five receptions for 20 yards. Still, the 8.6 fantasy points were a far cry from what most managers drafted him to produce. The fact that the horrendous showing came in what appeared on paper to be a tremendous matchup makes it all the more concerning.
Joining Jacobs in the fantasy football busts category for Week 10 was fellow Raiders RB Kenyan Drake. After posting three straight double-digit fantasy point totals following the departure of head coach Jon Gruden, Drake came crashing back down to Earth on Sunday. The Chiefs held him to just 16 yards rushing and 15 through the air. Given the lack of proven wide receiver talent, the Raiders need both of their RBs to lead the charge on offense. Neither was able to do that this week. While Kansas City has shown signs of improvement defensively, Las Vegas clearly has some major issues to address moving forward.
Cordarrelle Patterson | Atlanta Falcons
Stat Line: 4 carries, 25 yards; 1 reception, 14 yards
PPR Fantasy Points: 4.9 (RB46)
So, you want to trust an Atlanta Falcon in fantasy football? Such an undertaking is almost guaranteed to lead to disappointment. Cordarrelle Patterson was just that to his owners in Week 10. It has been a season for the ages for the veteran Patterson. Sunday’s disappointing effort was by no means the result of him ceding snaps to backfield mate Mike Davis (who is droppable in all fantasy formats). A combination of both a brilliant effort by the Dallas Cowboys defense and an ankle injury limited Patterson to just 39 total yards and a season-low 4.9 PPR fantasy points.
Making matters even worse, reports are indicating that Patterson may not be available for Atlanta’s upcoming Thursday night game. However, that doesn’t mean managers should be trusting Davis or Wayne Gallman to do anything.
Adrian Peterson | Tennessee Titans
Stat Line: 8 carries, 21 yards; 1 reception, -1 yard
PPR Fantasy Points: 3.0 (RB50)
For those fantasy managers who expected Adrian Peterson to step right in and start running like Derrick Henry, they were proven wrong in a big way on Sunday. In a tough matchup against the stout New Orleans Saints defense, Peterson was hardly a factor. The Titans’ new lead ball-carrier rushed just eight times for 21 yards. He added a reception to total only 3.0 PPR fantasy points on the day. Peterson started his Titans tenure with two extremely difficult defensive opponents in the Saints and Los Angeles Rams. He just might be a buy-low candidate this week ahead of a fruitful matchup with the Houston Texans in Week 11.

DK Metcalf | Seattle Seahawks
Stat Line: 3 receptions, 26 yards
PPR Fantasy Points: 5.6 (WR49)
It was a horrendous offensive performance all around for the Seahawks on Sunday. Although DK Metcalf was a total fantasy football bust, the real issue for Seattle was the poor play of QB Russell Wilson in his return from a finger injury. An inaccurate and ineffective Wilson hampered the value of all Seahawks’ fantasy assets including Metcalf. The former Ole Miss star finished with just 26 yards on three catches, good for a measly 5.6 PPR fantasy points. It was so bad that Metcalf lost his composure late and got ejected.
Along with Metcalf, both lead RB Alex Collins and fellow wideout Tyler Lockett both turned in bust-worthy fantasy lines on Sunday. Collins was forced to contend with a stacked box all game long as a result of Wilson’s inaccuracy. He wound up with only 41 yards rushing and 5.9 fantasy points. Meanwhile, Lockett finished even worse than Metcalf. He caught only two passes for 23 yards, totaling 4.3 PPR points. One has to believe that both Wilson and the Seahawks stars will get right in the coming weeks.
A.J. Brown | Tennessee Titans
Stat Line: 1 reception, 16 yards; 1 carry, 7 yards
PPR Fantasy Points: 3.3 (WR70)
Apparently, Week 10 was tough on all former Ole Miss Rebels in the fantasy football department. Like his college teammate DK Metcalf, A.J. Brown was also a major bust for the Titans, albeit in a game that the team managed to win. Many analysts expected Brown to take over the offense and start putting up massive numbers in the wake of Derrick Henry’s injury. That reckoning only grew louder when Tennessee placed fellow wideout, Julio Jones, on IR before Sunday’s game. Brown turned in yet another dud, catching just one pass for 16 yards. He is now only the WR30 on the season.
Perhaps the absence of his star teammates might actually hinder Brown’s production moving forward. The New Orleans Saints defense certainly found a way to take him out of the picture on Sunday.
Courtland Sutton | Denver Broncos
Stat Line: 4 receptions, 37 yards; 1 carry, -4 yards
PPR Fantasy Points: 7.3 (WR47)
For the second straight week, Jerry Jeudy served as the go-to target for Broncos’ QB Teddy Bridgewater. In an ugly game for Denver overall, that leaves Courtland Sutton in the fantasy football busts column for the third week in a row. The former SMU standout caught just two passes for 29 yards and finished as the WR59 in PPR scoring on the week. Sutton is not a player that managers can comfortably start moving forward. There are simply too many mouths to feed in the Broncos’ offense. Furthermore, he is clearly no longer the alpha receiver.

Darren Waller | Las Vegas Raiders
Stat Line: 4 receptions, 24 yards
PPR Fantasy Points: 6.4 (TE14)
While finishing 14th at a position doesn’t look awful in the grand scheme of things, keep in mind this is the shallow tight end position we are talking about. On top of that, fantasy football managers start Darren Waller every week with the expectation that he will turn in a top-five performance. Such was not the case in a blowout Raiders loss on Sunday night. Waller and the entire Las Vegas offense failed to take advantage of a promising matchup with the much-maligned Kansas City Chiefs defense. Waller finished with just 24 yards on four catches. Considering the high draft pick that many had to spend on him before the season began, this kind of disappointing performance might have cost some owners their Week 10 matchups.
Dallas Goedert | Philadelphia Eagles
Stat Line: 2 receptions, 4.8 yards
PPR Fantasy Points: 7.3 (TE20)
For the second week in a row, Eagles TE Dallas Goedert finds himself among the biggest fantasy football disappointments. This time, however, his lack of production was tied to an unfortunate injury. Goedert sustained a concussion in the Eagles’ road win on Sunday. He wound up only playing 20% of the team’s offensive snaps. The two catches he made during that time were hardly enough to save him from costing several fantasy managers. Goedert will now have to try and clear the NFL’s concussion protocol ahead of next week’s game. When healthy, he is one of the top targets in Philadelphia’s offense. However, the consistency of said offense is very much a concern.
Week 10 Fantasy Football Disappointments | QB
Carson Wentz | Indianapolis Colts
Stat Line: 22/34 passing, 180 yards; 4 carries, -1 yard
PPR Fantasy Points: 7.10 (QB21)
While Russell Wilson finished with just 5.64 fantasy points this week, his horrendous performance for Seattle doesn’t even deserve to be hashed out in this column. So instead, we pivot to Colts signal-caller Carson Wentz who failed to take advantage of an ideal matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars. While the Jags have a solid run defense, the secondary is a disaster. Despite this, Wentz only mustered 180 yards passing and never scored a touchdown in an Indianapolis win that was closer than many people anticipated.
The bland stat line led to just 7.1 fantasy points and a QB21 finish for Wentz on the week. Not only was it a bust based on the matchup, but Wentz was quietly a top-10 fantasy QB coming into the week. He falls to QB11 on the season after this result. When you’re getting beat out in fantasy points by Brian Hoyer (who didn’t even start for the New England Patriots yesterday), that’s not exactly a great look.
