Week 6 presents fantasy football owners the first true time this season where bye weeks could be an issue. We have four teams off this week: the Cincinnati Bengals, Detroit Lions, Miami Dolphins and Minnesota Vikings. Clearly, the wide receiver position takes a massive hit, with Ja’Marr Chase, Amon-Ra St. Brown and Justin Jefferson all needing replacements. This, combined with the injuries across the league, will lead to an active week of fantasy football waiver wire pickups.
Now, if you are not someone scrambling to field a starting lineup, it could be even more important for you to be active this week. You could steal one of the hot pickups and pull off a great trade to upgrade your team. Another strategy is to wait and scoop up some of the valuable pieces that are dropped. Either way, make sure you are not a passive bystander in Week 6.
Below, we will go over several of the top fantasy football waiver wire pickups! I also have my waiver wire rankings over at the FlurrySports Playbook!

Best Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups Week 6
QB Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups
Jameis Winston, New York Giants (4%)
If you have a quarterback on bye, the perfect player to pick up as a one-week fill-in is Jameis Winston. This week, he gets a revenge game against the New Orleans Saints. Side note: you can track Revenge Games here on the FlurrySports Playbook!
Winston continues to get better and better with each week he gets the starter reps. Last week, he completed 33/54 passes for 326 yards, three touchdowns and no turnovers. He ran for 27 yards as well. If it was another player, more people would be saying how great of a performance it was. But since it was Jameis, he’s slept on. Don’t be that guy.
Include him in your Week 6 fantasy football waiver wire pickups if you need a weekly streamer. The Saints are allowing the seventh-most yards per play (5.7) and the second-most points per play (0.48). After this, he plays the Texans and has a bye week, so he doesn’t need to burn a roster spot during those weeks. If you want a long-term add instead, look to either Aaron Rodgers or CJ Stroud.
CJ Stroud, Houston Texans (42.1%)
While the Houston Texans are only 1-4, it hasn’t been the fault of CJ Stroud. Houston’s quarterback has been solid this season, and the newest addition to his receiving corps makes him an obvious player for our Week 6 fantasy football waiver wire pickups.
Say what you want about Marvin Harrison Jr., but he improves a mediocre receiving corps, and the change of scenery should do him some good. Playing as a WR2, while also catching passes from a QB he has chemistry with, will also be a positive for his career.
Regardless of what you think about Harrison, Stroud has been playing well. And now, he gets a solid matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars. They allow the sixth-most yards per pass attempt (7.8) while allowing teams to complete over 65% of their passes. As long as Houston can protect him, it is a defense CJ Stroud should be able to attack.
Other Fantasy QBs to Consider:
- Aaron Rodgers, PIT
- Kirk Cousins, LV
RB Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups
MarShawn Lloyd, Green Bay Packers (48.7%)
Per a local source, MarShawn Lloyd spent a lot of time going to a Green Bay bagel shop this offseason. He definitely looks like it as well, but it seemed to help him truck that Bears defender on his touchdown run.
The Josh Jacobs situation is completely up in the air. While he’s gone, it’s clear MarShawn Lloyd is the top option in the backfield, and he can do damage both running and catching the ball.
It was a bad start to the season for him, but since the Packers signed three new starters on their offensive line, Lloyd’s production has improved a little. He caught five passes for 36 yards against Tampa, then he ran for 31 yards and two touchdowns last week.
No, he’s not lighting the world on fire. However, with matchups against the Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions on deck, Lloyd can be included in your Week 6 fantasy football waiver wire pickups.
Woody Marks, Houston Texans (48%)
David Montgomery exited last week’s game with a groin injury. In his absence, Woody Marks played nearly every snap, and he is expected to see a heavy workload while Montgomery is out. Considering it’s a groin injury and Houston has an international game, Marks will likely be the Texans’ RB1 against the Jaguars. The Texans have a Week 8 bye, so it could be two weeks of Marks getting the lead-back treatment.
Against the Titans, who don’t have a bad defense, Marks took 15 carries for 62 yards while also catching four passes for 23 yards. While the Jaguars’ run defense has been solid, Woody Marks will have a large enough workload to make him relevant. The Texans can also move the ball through the air, so Marks will be involved as a receiver, and they should give him red-zone opportunities.
Other Fantasy RBs to Consider:
- Dameon Pierce, PHI
- Kendre Miller, NO
- Tyjae Spears, TEN
WR Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups
Malik Washington, Miami Dolphins (39.3%)
Malik Washington is a player I said should be drafted in fantasy football since he was clearly going to lead the team in targets and receiving yards. Fast forward to Week 6, and Washington has a 28% target share and ranks as WR32 prior to MNF.
Washington will continue to see a healthy, consistent number of targets and receiving yards. And since the Dolphins will likely trail in almost every game this season, the game script is in his favor. Due to his offense, he isn’t a player who will suddenly turn into a threat to consistently see 100 yards or score a touchdown. However, in PPR scoring, he has a high floor and can be relied upon.
Jordyn Tyson, New Orleans Saints (33.1%)
You need to check and see if someone in your league dropped Jordyn Tyson. He is also a candidate to be dropped this week if someone needs the roster spot. Currently, he’s available in over two-thirds of ESPN Fantasy leagues and one-third of Sleeper Fantasy leagues. He’s not practicing yet, but he could be back within a few weeks.
Aside from the matchup against Minnesota, Tyler Shough has looked solid this season, and the New Orleans Saints’ passing attack can clearly move the ball. Tyson is also in the perfect scenario, since he will be the WR2, meaning the defense will key on Chris Olave first. This should lead to lighter coverage, and he is more than capable of exploiting that.
If Olave happens to get injured, which he has been prone to do, then Tyson would be the WR1, and we have seen how Shough is very willing to funnel targets towards his WR1.
Obviously, this fantasy football waiver wire pickup is more of a long-term add. However, if you have space, there are very few WR pickups that have week-to-week top-20 upside. It wouldn’t be surprising if Jordyn Tyson becomes a championship-winning pickup. You just have to be patient.
Germie Bernard, Pittsburgh Steelers (3%)
The Pittsburgh Steelers will be without both Michael Pittman Jr. and Roman Willson for weeks, moving rookie Germie Bernard up the depth chart. This is a rookie that Aaron Rodgers has full trust in, which means he will see targets go his way. With an expanded role last week, Bernard turned a team-high nine targets into six receptions for 80 yards. Go ahead and pick up Germie Bernard if you looking for a WR3 over the next few weeks.
Other Fantasy WRs to Consider:
- DeMario Douglas, NE
- Keenan Allen, IND
- Jalen Brooks, ARI
- Kendrick Bourne, ARI
TE Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups
Pat Freiermuth, Pittsburgh Steelers (20.3%)
Prior to the season, Aaron Rodgers talked up Pat Freiermuth, saying they needed to get him more involved this season. So far, that has led to him ranking as TE8. He has put up double-digit fantasy point scores in three of his five games.
Now, Michael Pittman Jr. is out for a few weeks while Roman Wilson left this past week’s game with a finger injury. Freiermuth is nearly an every-down tight end who has the trust of Rodgers, so he will be a major factor in the Pittsburgh passing game. He also gets looked at in the red zone often, with five red zone targets and a 50% goal line share for the Steelers.
Tyler Higbee, Los Angeles Rams (3.1%)
I am writing this before Tyler Higbee plays on Monday Night Football. However, as long as he doesn’t get injured, he will be a great fantasy football waiver wire pickup ahead of a solid matchup with the Arizona Cardinals.
Higbee has benefited from the injuries to the rest of the Rams’ tight end room. While they are getting healthier, second-year TE Terrance Ferguson, who is the best receiving threat of the bunch, is currently on IR. That means Higbee will get plenty of run against Arizona, who has given up over 20 fantasy points to TEs in each of the past three weeks.
Again, I am writing this up before MNF, but Higbee had 17 targets between Weeks 3 and 4, and his chemistry with Matthew Stafford should ensure he remains involved while Ferguson is out.
Other Fantasy TEs to Consider:
- Chig Okonkwo, WAS
- Brenton Strange, JAX
- Hunter Henry, NE
DST Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups
Kansas City Chiefs (33.5%)
If you are looking to the fantasy football waiver wire to stream a defense, the Kansas City Chiefs are the clear choice for Week 6. We all know how good Andy Reid is after a bye week, with a 22-5 record in his career. The stars are really aligning for the Chiefs’ D/ST this week. Not only did they have a week off to get healthy and to plan, but they also get to face a winless Los Angeles Chargers team. Oh, and the game is at Arrowhead.
The Chiefs are the easiest lock of the weekend at the D/ST position. Many people dropped them since they were off last week. If someone in your league was foolish enough to do that, go get them now. Check out the FlurrySports Playbook to see where they rank in my waiver wire rankings!
