Chicago Bears Preview

The Bears rebounded nicely after totaling just 47 yards of offense in an embarrassing Week 3 loss. Perhaps Matt Nagy relinquishing play-calling duties had something to do with it. Another factor was undoubtedly the Bears realizing that they should use rookie quarterback Justin Fields’ legs to their advantage and get him moving outside of the pocket. The result was a 209-yard passing day for the rookie and a 10-point win over the division rival Detroit Lions. After originally suggesting that veteran Andy Dalton could be back under center, Nagy officially declared Fields the Bears’ starting quarterback for Week 5 and beyond on Wednesday.

Darnell Mooney had a massive game for the Bears with 125 yards receiving. On the ground, David Montgomery scored two touchdowns and ran for over 100 yards. Unfortunately, he also suffered a knee injury that will sideline for a handful of upcoming games. Meanwhile, much has been made regarding the declined state of this year’s Bears defense. Well, according to Football Outsiders, they are still good enough to rank eighth overall in adjusted efficiency. Chicago throttled the Lions last week, forcing a pair of turnovers and coming up with four sacks. A similar effort will likely be needed in this Sunday’s NFL betting matchup in order to overcome the deficiencies of the offense.

Las Vegas Raiders Preview

The Raiders generated a lot of buzz by getting off to a 3-0 start this season. Their winning streak came to a screeching halt on Monday Night Football last week against the Los Angeles Chargers. Going up against undoubtedly the best offensive team they’ve played yet, a suspect and banged-up Raiders defense was exposed badly. Las Vegas was outgained by over 160 yards in what wound up as a two-touchdown loss. After posting MVP-caliber numbers through the first three weeks, QB Derek Carr came back down to earth in Week 4. He finished with a modest 196 yards passing along with two scores and a pick.

Despite starting running back Josh Jacobs returning after a one-game injury-related absence, the Raiders also struggled to run the football on Monday night. Jacobs led the team with 40 yards on the ground. Meanwhile, only Henry Ruggs and Darren Waller eclipsed 50 yards receiving. Las Vegas’ offensive line struggled to hold up against the talented defensive front of the Chargers. Given that the Bears possess a similarly stout front seven, the Raiders will need to shore up their blocking ahead of this Week 5 NFL betting contest. On the bright side, Las Vegas has to be optimistic that the defense can rebound on Sunday against one of the worst scoring offenses in the league.
