With the 39th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears draft Kyler Gordon, cornerback out of Washington. The hard hitter from Washington will be able to step in for any team and serve as a solid starter right away. He loves to lay some hard hits and oftentimes is rewarded by jarring the ball loose. His size and speed combined with his ability to make a break on passes makes him a great option in the draft.
Kyler Gordon
Position: Cornerback
Height: 6’0″
Weight: 200 lbs
Age: 22
College: Washington Huskies
Kyler Gordon brings strength and explosiveness that is coveted by every cornerback. He loves to hit hard and has caused multiple fumbles as a result. He has a great combination of size and speed and has fluid movements and footwork. Is good at making a break on the ball which can result in a lot of jumped routes or pass breakups at the very least.
One of the problems with being an aggressive hitter is that Gordon can often miss tackles after the catch. He can also lack the patience needed to latch on in the NFL and seems to be in “go mode” a little too often. Gordon still has to work on some of the more technical aspects of the game which is to be expected from a guy who only saw heavy usage in two seasons in a weak conference.
Coverage Snaps: 354
Rec/Tgt: 20/40
Completion Rate: 50%
Yards Allowed: 234
TD/INT: 0/2
Passer Rating: 47.3
It’s clear Kyler Gordon was drafted this high to contribute immediately. So, look for him to play a solid role in this defense. He has the demeanor and hard-hitting ability to be a menace in the league right out of the gate. While he sometimes needs to slow down a bit, he will certainly bring plenty of highlights and flair in 2022.
