Auburn vs Michigan State Prediction | Elite Eight Expert Picks
In what we thought was the toughest region in the NCAA Tournament, Auburn has had an easy road to get to the Elite Eight. After coming into the tournament on a down swing, the Tigers have ridden their third-ranked offense and eighth-ranked defense to a matchup against Michigan State.
In Auburn’s first three games, they have a combined winning margin of 45 points. The closest game has been their matchup with Michigan last round. In that game, Johni Broome, Denver Jones and Tahaad Pettiford combined for 62 out of the team’s 78 points. With those three scoring at such a high level, it begs to see what will happen if guys like Chad Baker-Mazara and Miles Kelly can up their scoring outputs as well.
Even as the number one team in the country, this Auburn team feels underrated. The Tigers have an incredible collection of talent in Broome, Kelly, Baker-Mazara and Pettiford, while featuring an incredible pressure defense.
After losing to Wisconsin in the Big Ten Tournament, Michigan State has looked like one of the better teams in the country. They dismantled Bryant and New Mexico in the first two rounds of the tournament and played great against Ole Miss, who looked like a buzzsaw.
Ole Miss came into the game against Michigan State destroying teams from behind the three-point arc. The Spartans held Ole Miss to just nine made threes from behind the arc. That defense has allowed them to get by with KenPom’s 23rd-ranked offense.
While the defense has been great, the offense leaves a little to be desired. Jase Richardson will be a force as always as his combination of athleticism will always put points on the board. Jaden Akins is a great leader at the point guard position, but outside of those two, it is hard to believe that anyone is going to continue to give you consistent scoring.
For our Auburn vs Michigan State prediction, we are picking the Auburn Tigers to win and move on in the NCAA Tournament.
