Richmond advances to NCAA Tournament
This year, the Atlantic 10 will hope to see a little more action than last season. In the 2021 Atlantic 10 conference there were only two upsets in 13 total tournament games. The top four seeds of Davidson, Dayton, VCU, and St. Bonaventure get a double-bye and will only need to win two games to win the title. St. Bonaventure will look to defend their crown and win their third conference title. Davidson will look to defend their regular season title and win their second A-10 tournament championship.
Of the 14 total teams in the Atlantic 10 Conference, Davidson, VCU, Dayton, Saint Louis, St. Bonaventure and Richmond all finished the regular season with a top-100 ranking in the College Basketball Net. Davidson enter the A10 tournament with a No. 47 overall net ranking. VCU enters the A10 tournament at No. 51, Dayton enters at No. 52, Saint Louis enters at No. 60 overall net ranking, St. Bonaventure enters at No. 83 overall net ranking, and Richmond enters at A10 Tournament with a No. 91 overall net ranking.
The A10 basketball preseason poll did a pretty bad job predicting the outcome of the conference. St. Bonaventure received all first-place votes to repeat and ended up finishing in fourth. Davidson was slated to finish sixth and ended up being overachievers as they won the regular season title with a 15-3 conference record. Richmond was the biggest underachiever as they were predicted to finish second but ended up in sixth.
