Ellenson and Thomas roll over New Orleans

The Pistons and Pelicans opened Monday’s Summer League play with an early blowout. Detroit controlled every aspect of the game for the full 40 minutes. Specifically, the three-time Summer League participant Henry Ellenson, whom nearly recorded a triple double with 13 points, ten rebounds, and seven assists. Ellenson did struggle with his shooting, which was a subpar 5-for-12.

However, his rookie running mate, Khyri Thomas did not. Thomas shot a near perfect 80% from the field and added 12 points, but it was his defense that continued to be a focal point. With a solid frame and quick feet, the rookie out of Creighton has shown he can defend at either guard position.

Cheick Diallo balls but Pels’ fall short

The Pelicans, whom have looked like a promising team during the summer thus far, saw their squad lose for the first time, but there was some solid takeaways. Cheick Diallo had a strong performance, scoring 25 points in 27 minutes along with shooting 7-of-8 from the free throw line. With his 7 1/4 inch wingspan, Diallo challenged every shot that was in his vicinity. A trait that Pelican fans love to see from superstar Anthony Davis. While Diallo is light years from resembling the effectiveness of Davis, the Pels will hope the former Kansas Jayhawk can develop behind their uni-browed big man.
