Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em: Week 2 WRs

Start: Christian Kirk vs. Colts

When the Jacksonville Jaguars signed Christian Kirk to a four-year, $72 million dollar contract to come in and be their number one receiver, it looks like they meant it. In Week 1, Kirk was targeted 12 times and caught six passes for 117 yards to finish with 17.7 fantasy points. In fantasy football, volume is king. If Kirk continues to see over a 28% target share, he will be a weekly WR2. This week’s matchup will be tougher, as the Colts defense is better than the Commanders, but Kirk belongs in your fantasy football lineup again.

Start: Gabriel Davis vs. Titans

Going back to Week 13 of last season, over Gabriel Davis’ past eight games including the playoffs, Davis has 10 touchdowns and started off the season with four receptions for 88 yards and a touchdown, good for 18.8 fantasy points in Week 1. Of course, four of those came in the AFC Divisional Playoff game. Still, Davis has emerged as a weekly WR2. This week, he is in play against the Titans, who gave up 25.2 fantasy points per game (fppg) to opposing WRs last season and picked up right where they left off, giving up 29.2 to the Giants in Week 1. He belongs in starting lineups going forward until proven otherwise.

Sit: Darnell Mooney vs. Packers

A popular breakout candidate to start the year, Darnell Mooney was a bust in Week 1, with only one reception for eight yards in an absolute washout of a game. There has been a lot of talk about his potential this season, based upon a strong second half to last year where he was WR13 over the last eight games. During that stretch run of his five best games, he only had one with Justin Fields at QB and his other four came with Andy Dalton at the helm. Mooney averaged 12.0 fppg in games with Fields at QB and 18.6 in games with Dalton at QB.

This fantasy football start ’em, sit ’em article suggests keeping Darnell Mooney on the bench this week and until he and Fields get on the same page.

Sit: CeeDee Lamb vs. Bengals

This one is tough because CeeDee Lamb the player is a phenomenal talent. But last week, he was only able to turn 11 targets into two catches for 29 yards, and most of those passes were from Dak Prescott, who is going to miss multiple weeks. This week, with Cooper Rush at the helm, Lamb is tough to start as a WR2 against a Bengals secondary that played very well last week. The only bright side to this play is that, last year, when Rush made a start against the Vikings in Week 8, he targeted Lamb eight times, completing six for 112 yards and 17.2 fantasy points. If you have a comparable option this week, this fantasy football start ’em, sit ’em article suggests you keep Lamb on your bench.
