Mike Williams Fantasy Football 2021 Outlook + Stats: Buy or Sell his ADP?

Mike Williams could be in for a breakout 2021 season, with reigning Rookie of the Year Justin Herbert heading into his second year as quarterback. The 2020 season did not provide stellar fantasy football production from the former No. 7 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. Williams finished the season ranked as the No. 48 overall receiver, far below his potential. He finished the 2020 season 32nd in touchdowns (5), 42nd in yards (756), 80th in contested catch rate (27.3) and 25th in drops (3.0). Williams averaged 10.3 fantasy points per game, which may make many fantasy players avoid him in this years’ draft. His highest FPTS was 27.9 against the New Orleans Saints last season.

Let’s discuss Mike Williams’ fantasy football outlook for 2021, and giving our buy or sell decision-based on his current average draft position (ADP).

Mike Williams 2021 Outlook

The former Clemson Tiger is now entering his fifth season in the NFL. The good news about him is that he played very well in the 2020 season finale, finishing with six receptions, 108 yards and a touchdown. Staying healthy is a major priority for Williams, and entering the offseason 100% will only benefit the young star.

The Los Angeles Chargers completely revamped their coaching staff and are changing their schemes drastically. Offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi will control the offense, which should benefit Mike Williams. He’ll be playing the X position, the same spot Michael Thomas played in the Saints’ scheme. That will boost his targets tremendously. Thomas broke the all-time record with 145 receptions in a season under Lombardi. Williams and Thomas clearly have two different styles to their play, and you won’t see Williams run nearly as many slants. But regardless of the route tree, Williams should learn to thrive in this spot.

It’s too early to tell if Williams really picks up his pace. As of now, he is a fantasy football flex option, at best. Williams should not be drafted in the first seven rounds, but more in the 8-9 range, and that might even be pushing it. Unless there is an injury, Williams should start the season on the bench, unless you play in at least a 12-man league. He’ll have to prove that his production will rise, or else he’ll just be a flex option when most of your starters are on a bye.

The former No. 7 overall pick is still a great deep threat option for Herbert and should see more red-zone opportunities in 2021.

Mike Williams Fantasy Football ADP | Buy or Sell?

The ADP of Mike Williams was taken from Fantasy Football Calculator on July 12th and sees him taken 130th overall and the WR48 overall.

The Chargers’ offense is projected to take a small leap in 2021, so seeing Williams this far on the list could turn him into a potential steal, if drafters continue to pass on him. Allen is going to continue to earn his targets and display the numbers. Running back Austin Ekeler will also be used frequently in the passing game, and the Bolts also recently signed tight end Jared Cook to a one-year deal. The biggest concern for Williams has always been his health. If Williams enters the season healthy, then a 1,000-yard, 5+ touchdown season is quite possible for his fantasy football owners.
