You’re drafting. Pick by pick goes and you realize Travis Kelce, Zach Ertz and George Kittle are all off the board as soon as you look for your tight end position. Now, you’re left with a cornucopia of TEs who all seem like a huge drop from TE3 to TE4. At TE4, there seems to be two names contently connected to that selection, Evan Engram and O.J. Howard. So, allow me to assist you in this difficult decision taking into account their ADP.

DOMINATE YOUR DRAFT: Fantasy Football Draft Kit

    Evan Engram, New York Giants

    ADP: TE5, 57th Overall

Engram is fast, like seriously fast. Most receiving tight ends are big-bodied guys who use size to create separation, but Engram just runs like a wide receiver. With Odell Beckham Jr. traded, this makes Engram the third-best receiver on that team, behind Saquon Barkley and Golden Tate. Tate will be suspended early, leaving Engram to be the top target for touches outside of Barkley for at least the first four weeks.

Engram’s big downside is that he has the injury bug. Last season, he missed five games and saw a significant drop in production compared to his rookie year. With about half the catches, receiving yards and touchdowns, Engram played four fewer games, but had 50 percent of the production.

    O.J. Howard, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

    ADP: TE4, 56th Overall

Howard is a big-bodies tight end who is extremely talented in body control. He is one of those fantasy players where you know he’s going to get touchdowns. The biggest problem with Howard is simply the too many mouths to feed argument. With Mike Evans, Chris Godwin and Cameron Brate nipping at his heels, it’s easy to say Engram will outmatch Howard in targets. However, even with these players ahead of him, Howard has still been one of the most consistent tight ends in the league in fantasy.

TE Quality Starts Leaders (6.5+ Pts)

    1) OJ Howard – 70%
    2) Ertz/Kittle – 69%
    3) Evan Engram – 64%
    4) Ebron/Kelce – 63%#FantasyFootball #NFLTwitter pic.twitter.com/3lmEUFbYl1

    The Decision

If OBJ was still a Giant, I would say Howard without batting an eye. Because of the OBJ trade, I’m still going to say Howard with the idea that if you missed out on the big three tight ends, then you want a tight end with a high floor more than a high ceiling. I believe Engram has a higher ceiling with a lower floor. Howard is a much safer pick that, barring injury, will be consistent points for you week after week. Engram will likely outscore Howard over a quarter of the season, but will likely not be able to reach Howard’s final fantasy point total come December.
