Oh, were you holding onto Lamar Jackson patiently and excited to watch him play last week? While the Football Gods giveth, more often than not this season, they taketh away.
Unless you own one of possibly five players, you probably have some questions at the quarterback position for your fantasy team. The Pittsburgh Steelers and Tennessee Titans on bye don’t affect the position much, but injuries and poor matchups certainly create some confusion this week. I’m here to answer some of your questions in the Week 9 Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em.
Now, let’s establish some boundaries here. I am not here to say Joe Burrow is a “start” this week. We’ll leave that groundbreaking analysis to the AI slop creators. Instead, I will be discussing those who are worthy of a conversation and who may be on the fringe of being a QB1 this week.
Now, labeling a player as a “sit” does not mean they are a must-sit player. As always, check out our weekly fantasy football rankings here. You can also access the FlurrySports Playbook here for all of the matchup-winning data your league doesn’t want you to have! There’s no doubt it will help with your fantasy football start ’em, sit ’em questions.

Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em: Week 9 QBs
Start: Jared Goff Fantasy Outlook at Dolphins
Don’t talk yourself out of playing Jared Goff this week. Yes, he is coming off a bad performance in which he ranked as QB20. However, that was against the Minnesota Vikings, and now he gets to face the Miami Dolphins.
In past seasons, Goff had a massive home/road split, and fantasy owners were taught to sit him away from his home turf. However, Goff has played three away games this season, and the results were pretty outstanding (QB2, QB7, QB4). This week, he faces an improving Miami defense, but the pass defense is still weak.
It could be tough for Detroit to run against Miami, but that won’t stop Goff. The Dolphins are giving up the most yards per pass attempt this season (8.3). They have also allowed the fifth-most fantasy points to QBs this season, and this rises to the second-most over the past four weeks.
Again, Jared Goff has been good this season, so don’t let the away game narrative and last week’s performance make you do something foolish. He is an easy “start” in the Week 9 Fantasy Football Start ‘em, Sit ‘em.
Start: Drew Lock Fantasy Outlook vs Cardinals
Sam Darnold is out for Week 9 (thank God), so that means good things for Drew Lock and, honestly, Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Lock started in Week 2 and played 90% of Week 1. He finished as QB24 when he entered the game against the Patriots, then he was QB9 against the Cardinals. Now, he gets to play the Cardinals on his home turf.
The Cardinals have allowed the second-most fantasy points to QBs this season, giving up at least 18 fantasy points in six of the past seven games. The one game under 18 was Matthew Stafford’s 16.9. Drew Lock is playing with nothing to lose, and he is letting it rip downfield. With an NFL MVP candidate like Jaxon Smith-Njigba to throw to, that’s all that you have to do in order to return a solid fantasy day.

Sit: Tyler Shough Fantasy Outlook at Seahawks
Over the past four games, the Cleveland Browns have been shutting down the passing attack. They have given up the second-fewest fantasy points to QBs during this time, allowing two touchdowns and two interceptions in four games.
Tyler Shough has been a different player than he was over the first month of the season. He had three top-10 finishes in the first three weeks of the season, and he has ranked as the QB15 or lower in three of the past four games. The touchdowns haven’t been there for him, and that is expected to continue against Cleveland.
Jordyn Tyson returned to practice on Wednesday, but he likely needs at least a week of practice before he sees the field with Tyler Shough.
Sit: Gardner Minshew Fantasy Outlook at Seahawks
Frankly, I don’t think Gardner Minshew has much of a chance against the Seattle Seahawks, and we could see Carson Beck before the day is done. Seattle was just embarrassed on their home turf in a prime-time game. Now, I feel like they took that personally, and they will take it out on Minshew and the Cardinals.
Even with the Seahawks looking bad last week, Caleb Williams finished as QB17. This Seattle defense is really quite scary. Their defensive front is good enough to take care of the Arizona running game themselves. They are allowing just 3.5 yards per carry. So, the main focus of their defense will be to stop Trey McBride and Michael Wilson. If they take even one of those players away, Minshew doesn’t have much of a chance.
I like Gardner Minshew as many of you do. However, he will be under pressure all day long in a hostile environment. Don’t expect to see the type of magic he showcased against the Cowboys.
