Fantasy football is much more than just picking the best players and deciding who to play each week. The game is essentially a sports version of the stock market. Player values are always fluctuating, and to have the best team at the end of the season, you often need to capitalize on trade value.
It’s often smart to try to sell high when players are coming off of hot stretches and big performances, and one of those players right now is Jaylen Warren of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Jaylen Warren fantasy owners have enjoyed his recent performances, but now could be the best time to capitalize on his increased value.
On the FlurrySports Playbook, we have everything your league doesn’t want you to have. Our fantasy rankings, the NFL Survivor tool, a weather app and hundreds of NFL team stats are all free. Sell High on Jaylen Warren | Fantasy Football Trade Value Week 6
There is a premium on running backs in fantasy football now more than ever. With plenty of big names hurt or just not able to find their footing, everyone’s scrambling at the position. One of the few guys who is thriving is Pittsburgh Steelers running back Jaylen Warren. He’s looked like a man possessed as of late, and Aaron Rodgers heaped plenty of praise on him as a playmaker and a person after this week’s game. The Jaylen Warren fantasy stock has never been higher, which is exactly why you need to sell him while the iron is hot.
Prior to Week 5, Jaylen Warren was above Saquon Barkley and Cam Skattebo in our fantasy football trade value calculator. Check out the FlurrySports Playbook to see where his value rises to this week! He may be behind elite options like Jonathan Taylor and Bijan Robinson, but that’s to be expected. Over the past three weeks, Warren has exploded, and he is currently RB7 on the season. Unfortunately for the Steelers, tougher times are coming.
Looking at our fantasy football strength of schedule metric, the Steelers have the 11th-toughest schedule for running backs for the rest of the season. Most importantly, for a three-week stretch in Weeks 13 through 15, the Steelers play three of the toughest defenses for running backs: the Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars and Baltimore Ravens.
Jaylen Warren Fantasy Outlook
With Rico Dowdle likely coming back into the frame, Warren will certainly lose some touches. Fortunately, there are people who you can convince that the Steelers will surely continue to only go to the hot hand. A good package to trade Warren for would also include another player who many fans aren’t paying attention to: Minnesota Vikings running back Jordan Mason. All reports point to him returning after their bye this week, so you’ll only be out of a running back for a week.
Mason might not be the sexiest running back on the market, but he’s certainly better than people give him credit for in the industry. He had 15 carries and a touchdown in a Week 1 slugfest against the Green Bay Packers, where the Vikings were playing from behind until late. With the Vikings’ defense as formidable as it is, they’ll certainly be playing with the lead for most of the games they play, which will certainly help him see more usage. On top of that, Aaron Jones just got banged up last week and was the second option in the backfield before Mason got hurt. Mason will take back the “1A” spot, which gives him plenty of value.
In exchange for the “downgrade” in value, a player like KC Concepcion would make a ton of sense. He suffered a concussion early on in the game last week, but plenty of players come back in a week; just look at Ja’Marr Chase. Concepcion has gotten 6.6 targets a game so far and will only get more as he continues to grow in this offense. In Weeks 1 and 2, he had snap shares in the mid-60s. Since then (excluding his early exit this week), he has seen snap shares of 86% and 92%. Seeing he also ranks fifth amongst all receivers in opening drive touches (per our Paydirt tool), it’s hard to see an avenue where Concepcion doesn’t continue to thrive in this Cleveland Browns offense.
Like with anything, trades are always a gamble. With that being said, there’s plenty of reason to believe that Jordan Mason and Jaylen Warren won’t be that far off each other for the rest of the season. Seeing that you can pick up a solid piece like Concepcion in return for what could very well be a wash, the time is now to pull the trigger.
