We enter Week 5 with many question marks surrounding the wide receiver position. Players like Ja’Marr Chase, Terry McLaurin, DeVonta Smith and others have injuries that are expected to keep them out, while Tetairoa McMillan and Rashee Rice both have their bye week. The top tier of the position is getting thin, creating some interesting Week 5 Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em decisions for you.
Look, I am not here to say that Jaxon Smith-Njigba or Amon-Ra St. Brown belong in your lineup. I hope you already know that. Instead, I will go over players you may actually have a question about. These are players you may debate on starting in your WR2/3 slot, or possibly your Flex position, depending on the weekly matchup. Below, I have two players I like and two more that I am nervous about.
Now, labeling a player as a “sit” does not mean they are a must-sit player. As always, check out our weekly fantasy football rankings here. You can also become a member to join a group chat with Zach Brunner and other members where all fantasy football start ’em, sit ’em questions are welcome!

Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em: Week 5 WRs
Start: Jameson Williams Fantasy Outlook at Cardinals
Jameson Williams finally came to life last week, totaling a season-high six receptions for 102 yards. He has a great opportunity to keep his momentum rolling against the Arizona Cardinals.
Through four weeks, the Cardinals allow the fifth-most fantasy points to WRs. Frankly, their pass defense has been terrible. They allow the most yards per pass attempt in the league (9.1) while allowing the second-highest average passer rating (114.9). This is great for a player like Williams, who really thrives on the deep ball. He leads the team with an average depth of target of 14.4 yards.
The Lions vs Cardinals matchup has the highest projected total of the week, at 54.5 points. This is a great game to stack, as both offenses can light up the scoreboard while both defenses have really struggled. You can trust Jameson Williams in your starting lineup again this week.
Start: DK Metcalf Fantasy Outlook vs Colts
Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers found out late in last week’s game that you can just throw it up to DK Metcalf, and he will turn a 50/50 ball into a 60/40 advantage. Look for this to be a new concept in the Pittsburgh offense, especially against the Indianapolis Colts.
While the Colts’ defense has improved over the first month of the season, they are still letting up big plays, and Sauce Gardner has been the one involved in that. The Colts have given up 11 passing plays of 20+ yards already, and the big DK Metcalf could add a couple to that in Week 5. Indianapolis also allows 8.1 yards per pass attempt, which is the fifth-most in the league. Look for Rodgers, Metcalf and company to have success on Sunday.
Sit: Mike Evans Fantasy Outlook at Seahawks
Despite playing banged up, Mike Evans has played every game this season, and he has done pretty well. He’s currently WR22 in PPR scoring. However, his ranking is likely to fall after a tough matchup with the Seattle Seahawks.
The Seahawks have allowed the second-fewest fantasy points to WRs, at 21.8 in PPR scoring. They do not allow the big play, and they also keep teams out of the red zone. Seattle has allowed just 2.3 red zone trips per game, ranking second in the category. Evans is no longer athletic enough to rip off the huge play, so he really relies on his red zone success to find value.
In this matchup, the potential just isn’t there to return value, landing him on the wrong side of our Week 5 Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em.
Sit: Rome Odunze Fantasy Outlook at Packers
In his first game with Tyson Bagent, Rome Odunze was able to turn in his past game of the season. He totaled six catches for 94 yards in the game. Of course, this was also a game where the Chicago Bears were able to control possession for 42:45. Crazy.
This week, he faces a Packers defense that has been pretty good against the pass, minus Justin Jefferson’s Week 1 performance. Green Bay has allowed 6.9 yards per pass attempt, which is the 13th-fewest; nothing crazy there. However, the Packers have allowed just five receptions of 20+ this season, which is tied for the fewest in the league. Meanwhile, Odunze has been the deep threat for this team, with an average depth of target of 15.3 yards.
Odunze will likely be run deep often in this game for spacing, allowing the Bears to run the ball and pass short. This helps the Bears’ offense, but it won’t help your fantasy team.
