The bye weeks have begun! So, for those relying on Patrick Mahomes or Bryce Young, you must find another quarterback. Hell, if you were relying on Justin Herbert or Jalen Hurts, I would suggest you to do the same. Clearly, there are tough Week 5 QB Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em decisions to make this week, and I’m here to help!
Now, let’s establish some boundaries here. I am not here to say Josh Allen is a “start” this week. We’ll leave that groundbreaking analysis to the AI slop creators. Instead, I will be discussing those who are worthy of a conversation and who may be on the fringe of being a QB1 this week.
Now, labeling a player as a “sit” does not mean they are a must-sit player. As always, check out our weekly fantasy football rankings here. You can also become a member to join a group chat with Zach Brunner and other members where all fantasy football start ’em, sit ’em questions are welcome!

Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em: Week 5 QBs
Start: Jacoby Brissett Fantasy Outlook vs Lions
We will kick off our Week 5 Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em with Jacoby Brissett for the second week in a row. He had a terrific Week 3 performance, then he threw multiple touchdowns again last week. The issue is that his three interceptions tanked his fantasy performance.
This week, he is an absolute must-start against the Detroit Lions. As you can see on the FlurrySports Playbook, the Lions surrender the most fantasy points to quarterbacks, and they also allow 7.9 yards per pass attempt. Even if a team has one main receiving weapon, like Tetairoa McMillan last week, they are incapable of shutting it down. So, for a Cardinals team with several receiving weapons, Jacoby Brissett could have plenty of success in Week 5.
The projected 54.5-point total for Lions vs Cardinals is the highest of the week, so feel free to stack this game.
Start: Drake Maye Fantasy Outlook vs Raiders
I mentioned last week how it was the perfect opportunity for Drake Maye to bounce back against an overrated defense, and it would silence any of the New England Patriots doubters. He went on to finish as QB1 against the Buffalo Bills, and now he gets a home matchup against a Raiders defense that is overrated given the teams they have faced.
Las Vegas ranks right in the middle in terms of fantasy points allowed to QBs. That seems pretty good. It’s not as impressive when you see they played Malik Willis, Justin Herbert, Patrick Mahomes last week with the WR injuries, and Tyler Shough. They allowed a big day to Shough and Mahomes was decent despite the injuries, so it is clearly a very winnable matchup for Drake Maye.
On top of that, the Raiders travel across multiple time zones to play in the early time slot. If they are asleep to start the game, Maye will connect with a deep shot to Romeo Doubs or Mack Hollins for big points.
Sit: Jalen Hurts Fantasy Outlook at Jaguars
The vibes are bad in Philadelphia. The offense has been bad; Saquon Barkley and Tank Bigsby both got injured, Lane Johnson retired, and then they traded away Cam Jurgens. On top of that, DeVonta Smith could be out again this week, and Dallas Goedert remains out. It’s tough to do anything if you lose three of your five starting offensive linemen, much less losing the other players as well. Do we think the combination of play-calling and Jalen Hurts’ raw talent is enough to defy the odds and have offensive success? I don’t.
The matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars isn’t the easiest either. The Jaguars allow the eighth-fewest fantasy points to quarterbacks. If you have a better option, you should try to keep Hurts on your bench and wait for an opportunity to sell high.
Sit: Deshaun Watson Fantasy Outlook at Jets
It’s crazy that I have to write up Deshaun Watson as a “sit” in 2026, but given how well he has performed recently, it is important to make sure you don’t put him in your starting lineup. This week’s matchup against the New York Jets isn’t the greatest.
The Jets allow the fifth-fewest fantasy points to QBs this season, holding all QBs under 20 fantasy points. This is impressive, considering they have played Jared Goff and Jordan Love as well. Watson has three straight top-20 finishes in a row, but he has also passed for less than 250 yards in three of his four games this season as well.
If you are in a 2QB league, he can be considered, but Deshaun Watson is a low-floor, low-ceiling QB play in fantasy football Week 5. Check out the FlurrySports Playbook for more data and analysis to help with those tough Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em decisions!
