The NFL is back in full swing. We have seen every team except for two, the Denver Broncos and the Kansas City Chiefs. The two teams are set to end Week 1 of the regular season in a major AFC West clash with major playoff implications. Obviously, the biggest story coming into the game surrounds Patrick Mahomes and how he looks after tearing his ACL late last season. Led by that incredible defense, though, the Broncos are looking to spoil the future Hall of Famer’s return to the field.
Either way, given the early stakes of the game, we are bound to see a great game from two teams looking to get back to the Super Bowl.

Travis Kelce HIGHER 5.5 Targets
As I stated in the intro, Patrick Mahomes is coming back in week one after his season ended prematurely with an ACL tear last year. In a tough draw, Mahomes immediately gets a matchup with possibly the best defense in the NFL in the Denver Broncos. While it may be hard to believe that Mahomes will run all over the backfield, that Broncos pass rush will make life uncomfortable. Luckily for Mahomes, his favorite weapon in Travis Kelce is back for another season. In order to neutralize that strong pass rush, Kelce is going to have to be the easy completion in the middle of the field for Mahomes all night long.
In 22 career games against the Broncos, Travis Kelce has gone higher than 5.5 receptions 18 times. That includes going higher than 5.5 targets in each of the last seven matchups. The Chiefs big offseason signing in Kenneth Walker will be used in this game, but given the uncertainty on the offensive line, using Kelce to back up line backers and safeties will be key to getting the run game going.
Courtland Sutton HIGHER 42.5 Receiving Yards
The Denver Broncos made a big splash this offseason by trading their 2026 first-round pick for Jaylen Waddle, but it is actually Courtland Sutton that I am targeting here. For the first time in his career, Sutton will see the number two coverage. Given his 6-4, 215-lb frame, he will have the size advantage against his opponent in this matchup. Similar to Mahomes, Bo Nix is coming off of a pretty nasty injury last season, so I am not expecting the quarterback to use his legs early in the season, leading to more drop backs and more of a willingness to throw the ball downfield.
When looking at the Chiefs secondary it is hard to be afraid of anyone. L’Jarius Snead is back in town, but outside of him, this secondary is either untested like rookie Mansoor Delane or inconsistent like Nohl Williams. On top of that all, the Chiefs will be without starting safety Chamarri Conner. On paper, the Broncos have a major advantage in the receiver vs secondary matchup and with Sutton’s size and experience in Sean Payton’s offense, he will be the main benefactor of the Broncos passing attack.
JK Dobbins HIGHER 50.5 Receiving Yards
My final Underdog Fantasy pick revolves around this Broncos run game. When looking at all of the offensive lines in the NFL, it is hard to find one that is as stacked as the Broncos. As I stated before, I am not expecting Bo Nix to be using his legs too much in this game, so it will be up to the offensive line and Denver’s running backs to keep the Chiefs defense honest in this game. Luckily for Denver, JK Dobbins is as healthy as he has been in the last year and looks ready to lead a backfield that can attack you from a number of different ways.
When he has been on the field, Dobbins has quietly been a very consistent running back. Last season in Denver, Dobbins went higher than 50.5 rushing yards in nine out of ten games. In fact, he has gone over 50.5 rushing yards in 18 out of his last 24 games, dating back to his time with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2024. Now, Dobbins will run behind the best offensive line that he has ever had against a Chiefs front that is aging quickly. Expect Dobbins to get the first crack in the backfield in this game and easily go higher than 50.5 rushing yards.
